Portuguese citizenship

Post new topic

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone have some experience with applying and getting a Portuguese citizenship (not as spouse of Portuguese). As I understood, you can live in Portugal for 5 years with a residency permit (that you got after D2/D7 visa, etc.), then get a permanent residency, and later apply for citizenship. And if you lived in Portugal long enough and know Portuguese well enough you can get citizenship relatively easy.

Hi Eadweard4,

That's right. Please read this:

Portuguese Citizenship: Who is entitled and how to obtain it?

Legally resident in Portuguese territory for more than 5 years (case B5)

The Portuguese language test CIPLE (Certificado Inicial de Português como Língua Estrangeira / Initial Certificate of Portuguese as a Foreign Language) is a mandatory language test for obtaining Portuguese citizenship. Level A2 is the minimum level required.

Kind Regards
