The best age to move to Colombia

Post new topic

Cheryl

Hello everybody,

No two people experience expatriation in Colombia in the same way, depending on their age and personal situation. We would like to know more about you and ask you to share with us when you decided to move to Colombia.

How old were you when you moved to Colombia? Did you go alone or with your family?

In your opinion, was it the right time to move there?

Do you find this country welcoming for your age group or for certain categories in particular? Why or why not?

Are there any incentives (financial aid, lower taxes, etc.) and for which category of expats?

In your opinion, is there an ideal age to move to Colombia?

Thank you for your contribution!

I moved at age 52 with my Colombian wife.  I was fortunate to have remote contract work when I chose.

Colombia is welcoming to all age groups and offers all ranges every option there is.

I'd say the ideal age would be to immigrate with your parents when you are young.  That way, you're not always comparing 'what you had', to 'what you have' in Colombia.

I would say, don't move until after the elections to see the direction of the country.  And even then, wait another 18-24 months if Petro wins....

I don't favor putting your life on hold if a politician wins an election.

You can still visit Colombia after the vote.

Buying a house, land or other real property is another matter.  That I would wait on.

Right time to move to Colombia? Too broad a question. Everyone's story and motivation is different. I was 65 when I moved to Colombia. Four reasons: The people, the climate, the health care and the cost of living.

My husband and I moved to Colombia in 2021.  I was 68, husband was 70.  Would have moved 3 years prior except had to wait for terminally ill pet to pass in and took a year wait-and-see hiatus due to the pandemic.

In your opinion, was it the right time to move there?   Would have liked to have moved sooner.  If you like hiking and exploring the outdoors move as early as possible to maximize the number of years you can be active before health issues restrict you.

Do you find this country welcoming for your age group or for certain categories in particular? Why or why not?   Medellin Colombia has a very active expat community.  Colombianos are welcoming and appreciate gringos taking the leap to move to their country.

Are there any incentives (financial aid, lower taxes, etc.) and for which category of expats? Much lower cost of living, including healthcare for legal residents (healthcare is for resident visa holders).

In your opinion, is there an ideal age to move to Colombia?   As soon as you are financially able to make the move.
