Roxas City, Capiz Return

Post new topic

billdimmett
I'll finally be returning to the Philippines, and Roxas City, Capiz the beginning of next week. After driving from Northern California to Atlanta Georgia earlier this month, my wife and I will be flying out of the Atlanta airport Sunday evening to Qatar, and then on to Manila. Next Wednesday, we'll be in Roxas City and having lunch in our new home.

This is my 4th time back to the island...the previous visits I stayed on the other side of Roxas City in Pontevedra, with my wife's family. On my other visits I stayed close to "home" and only met 1 expat on my visit to McDonalds (lol)

I've only chatted with Ken V on this forum, but are there any other expats living in the Roxas City, Capiz area? It would be great to meet and visit from time to time. There may be a house warming+homecoming party in the near future...

I'm looking forward to my new life and new home in the Philippines, and hope to see some of you along the way.

Presumably on the 7.30pm Qatar Airways flight with a one hour 20 minute changeover in Qatar. Great airline and timings! Enjoy your flight & stay. 1f603.svg

@Lotus Eater I'm afraid we got the 9 hour change over (I might have went with the later departing flight to save some money). But after being away from the Philippines for a year and a half, it doesn't seem that bad. Fingers crossed that the airport has comfortable seating.

I'm sure you will be able to find a quiet area of the airport to relax in. Arabian Gulf airport passenger traffic projections are not expected to reach pre covid levels until 2024 at the earliest.

Apparently in the transit lounge of Hamas International they have 'sleep modules' that you can rent for several hours at a time. Similar to business class beds. They even have a wake up call service so you don't miss your connecting flight :)

Welcome home, Bill, and welcome to the forum.

Good to hear you're almost back to the Phills.  You're getting back at a good time too.  Almost all restrictions have been dropped here, in Roxas,  and things are getting back to normal.  After you get settled in, you can find me at a little Sari Sari  in Baybay next to Almas  Resturant almost every late afternoon. Come on down, it will be nice to meet a new expat.

We've been in Roxas about 10 days now, and the jet lag, and time zone changes are finally wearing off. I'm feeling acclimated to my new environment here, and we're finally getting out and doing more around town. Look forward to catching up with you at the Sari Sari next to Almas in the next few days.

I'm going to shoot for Friday or Saturday. We have a festival in the family's barangay in Pontevedra on Wednesday and we'll be there for a couple of days. Late afternoons...next to Almas Restaurant...Sari Sari

Hi.

I've never been to Roxas City.  The closest I've been is Cebu.

What would you advise a single American Man as far as where to go?

Thx.

Thats a tough question for me to answer. I’ve only spent a short time in Manila, and the last 3 years, off and on, mostly here in the Roxas City area. I came to the Philippines to meet the woman that would become my wife, and this is the area where she grew up, and where her family lives. My cost of living here is good, and has almost all I need.

I had a quick google for places older single men can hang out.

It suggested this
