Well that's a good thing...thank god for that.
there is no return policy after all  1f603.svg

True but I think there is a buy one get one free offer on relations because every time we chatted more would pop out of the woodwork.

danfinn

@Wellsfry Not all Filipinos are like that and perhaps you only notice those who try to make a withdrawal from you, the "ATM", making it seem like all are greedy. It's like having a rich uncle in the West: some family members go for whatever bucks they can, others just appreciate the man for what he is.  A substantial portion of Filipinos respect you for who you are provided you deserve that respect.

laymanm65

@Cherryann01 I got tested before I came here to retire.  So I am certain I’m not at fault. Lol

FilAmericanMom
That does sound like a lot. Our small 3 bdrm home was under 3000p per month, for the last two months, with AC in two bedrooms. But we are up a bit in elevation, so a little cooler.
- @pnwcyclist

Maybe a past due amount is included in the 9,000 electric bill of Cherryann01's girlfriend.

Does the gf and daughter live in their own apartment or are they staying at her parents' house? Personally, I think it's fine to contribute 9k if she's staying at her parents' house.  It would cover more than her and her daughter's fair share of electricity, water, household stuff, etc. And it might be cheaper than renting an apartment.

If she's living separate from them in her own place, it would be best to ask about the appliances she's using and for how long she's using them.
FilAmericanMom

The problem with this particular Filipina is she seems to have too many things on the burner at once. She has managed without a car all her adult life but recently got a 4x4 for 100,000 pesos, I think was the figure.

- @Cherryann01

Can one really purchase a decent used 4x4 for only 100,000 pesos? Was the vehicle pawned to your girlfriend for 100,000 pesos? Is the vehicle registered under her name?
pnwcyclist
No, not even a well-used Multicab.
Cherryann01

@FilAmericanMom I am just going by what she told me and the video she sent of her driving the vehicle. From what you have said, it sounds like she may have bought a death trap rather than a safe functioning vehicle and I do hope for her sake that she took somebody with some knowledge of vehicles with her when she purchased it.

FilAmericanMom
The problem with this particular Filipina is she seems to have too many things on the burner at once. . . . She was also taking about opening an Internet Cafe but when it comes to an electric bill, she asks me to help. . .
- @Cherryann01

I would suggest refraining from giving her capital to open an internet cafe, or maybe any business.

First of all, what is her definition of an internet cafe?  Is it a cafe with internet or is it a place with several computers connected to the internet where she can charge users depending on time spent on the internet? With the former, she will have stiff competition with well-established cafes. The latter is becoming obsolete as internet access here in the Philippines is becoming not only cheaper and faster, but also with a wider range of options.

Is she tech savvy? Can she troubleshoot a computer or fix / replace hardware? Has she had experience in working at an internet cafe or whatever business she's thinking of starting?

Basic bookkeeping is actually taught in high school. Does she remember how to do that? It's a tedious task, but it has to be done. Does she know the difference between sales and net income and also return on investment?

Has she written a check before, and has she tried (and succeeded in) balancing a checkbook?

Do you think she is doing this so she can have a "business" to show people how far she's come even though she knows very little of the business she wants to start?

- @Cherryann01

As pnwcyclist posted, one can't even buy a well-used multicab with 100,000 pesos. My hunch is someone pawned your girlfriend the vehicle for 100,000 pesos.

Your girlfriend probably kept the original copy of the Certificate of Registration and Official Receipt of annual registration renewal, maybe signed an IOU / agreement and had it notarized. If the original owner of the vehicle is a friend or relative, he / she would probably borrow the vehicle once in a while. The vehicle is probably in good condition and functioning otherwise your girlfriend would not have agreed on their arrangement.

But of course this is all conjecture. If I were you, I would ask especially if the 100k came from me.

Realistically, a used 4x4 would probably cost around 300k to 1 million pesos depending on the make and model and mileage and general condition of the vehicle.

It was never my intention to send her any money for this venture and she never asked for money for this. I also have no idea of what she planned and how she planned to run her internet cafe. I imagine she was going to run it from home but am not sure and I certainly do not know how she intended to pay for the computers, printers, etc unless this is a joint venture with friends or family or she intends to sell her small business to finance it (a small shop/store).

To my knowledge she is not a specialist in this field so would probably not know how to trouble shoot or answer a customers basic questions when they are using one of the computers.

One thing is for sure though - her electric bill will be more haha.

You will do soon ;)

@FilAmericanMom Probably a used, locally manufactured multicab with a surplus Japanese engine and transmission. They do sell 4x4 versions of those vehicles but consider that the engine is usually a 3 cyclinder suzuki and does not have the power westerners associate with 4x4 vehicles. 100k is a typical price for something used.

I was thinking of a Rav4 or a Toyota Hi-lux or the likes when the Cherryann01 mentioned "4x4".

Yes. "New" =assempled from surplus parts cost around 250k and its rather common with old such for sale for 100k.

It excist such with 1000cc engines
but the much more common 660cc are so weak so even with lower than official told "max" cargo weight, they have problem to get up a hill even at highway!* Not much use of a vehicle if have to push it uphill even at concreete roads1f923.svg

*As it happened with van type of same for 3 Americans and a tiny Filipina.  If I remember correct the official manage to carry weight is 800kg. I dont believe they were that heavy. Perhaps the official weight dont tell the load capacity but include the weight of the vehicle?  :)

Before my wife & I moved from Vegas her very best friend from the Philippines who was working in Canada, visited us and was getting married in one of the many wedding chapels. Actually my wife & I spent a weekend visiting wedding chapels for their marriage before she arrived.

Anyways, all of us went grocery shopping at Whole Foods better known as "Whole Pay Check Foods".  There was an expensive Exotic car parked in the parking lot. The Bride & Groom took pictures posing that they were getting into that car.

Side note to Cherryann. . . . . If want to find yourself a rich girlfriend or wife, just go to Whole Foods, they have a small sit down dining area, a perfect place to start up a conversation and meet someone of means.  ($$$
Cherryann01
@Enzyte Bob
No, I am not really after a rich girlfriend or wife, just a sensible one maybe and no marriage.
Cherryann01
This had me laughing even harder. On Paul in Dumaguete's latest blog posted a few hours ago a guy messages him online wanting advice on a local girl. This guy says he thinks he has met the perfect Filipina.

He states 'She has never asked me for money' Paul says 'Did you send her any money?' The guy replies 'Oh yeah' 1f923.svg

- @Lotus Eater

Yeh but I have just watched this and it is not just the one guy sending money, there are a few and the amounts sent to build properties or help build properties must be substantial.

You still dont get it, in catholic far behind countries, dont expect sensible women are interested in anyone not agreeing to marriage
- but golddiggers are interested in anyone who pay them. It seem you have got one such...

Cherryann01
And further more, I know for sure she did not want to get married also.

And like I said before, I have not and will not tell all the story and she comes from Mindanao so who says being catholic has anything to do with it?

Your assuming wrongly again. In general terms your correct but not in this case and I am not talking about the money side of things, just religion.

The Suzuki Multicab pickup I bought a few months ago for 270K (newly reassembled, new paint and upholstery, etc) is the latest model DA-63 - 660cc, 5 spd, 4x4 and it has been happily hauling big rocks (for the rip-rap) and bags of cement for the house we're building. I just leave it there. It's a really tough little bugger and fun to drive. Plenty of power at low speeds because it has low gears and as well as a low range transfer case. We have a really steep road. - no problem, but yes, it's not fast on the highway.. I rather enjoy driving it - for about an hour, max - because the driving position is terrible for full sized Americans.

Well.  Most golddiggers dont aim long term, but some do.  OR she turned to that when you disapointed her somehow.

How do you know she dont want to get married?
Perhaps she just said so, or she changed her mind e g by geting older or when became mother and fot to think of the DISADVANTAGES for her and the daughter with you arent married.  Many even under 30 single mothers think they have no chance geting a husband, and PARENTS to a very beautiful and nice single mother thought so too., so they got very suprised and grateful when a Norwegian even agreed to m,arry her.  (At Mindanao btw.)  Beside the shame still in Phils with being "bastard"/illefatimite" CHILD there are even impportant legal disadvantages with not being married within marriage.

So what if she is muslim?  Many muslims are even MORE traditional than catholics  :)
The only of the biger religions I know is relaxed about such are budhists, but they are more relaxed about many things  :)

So they have solved the problem with other gearing  1f44d.svg
I suppouse they hadnt at the minivan I told about.

Compare:  Tractors are MUCH  stronger by the gearing than just engine tell. E g 30 hp tractor can be very strong but a 30hp car would be weak  :)   (Although DAF cars, later bought by Volvo, had by an odd no steps "gearbox" a 33hp car which could easy beat common sport cars up to 50 km/h !!! but it took ages to reach top speed  :)
Lotus Eater
@coach53

Slightly off topic. I had the Volvo 480 ES (2 litre version - better power to weight ratio) for many years and loved the car but they had a few glitches and I put that down to the fact that they were made in the old DAF factory in Holland. Never broke down once though.

My father in the 60's drove the iconic 'Saint' car the P1800 Coupe which was a left hand drive imported from Denmark (The Saint series producers wanted to use a Jaguar but they refused;  Volvo jumped in and it became the model that launched the brand in the UK) Of course the 480 was an update of the P1800. Alas the later C30 had the ignition key on the left of the steering wheel - duh. Talking of hit TV series when I lived in Dubai I drove an old Pontiac ( Jim Rockford - my favourite PI ;)) Firebird - boy did that car shift.

How come neither of you BS poster have managed to correct me about anything Philippine related, inspite of I have reminded you several times...? :D

Clever people dont need to have e g own kids to figuere out how to solve things anyway by many things can be solved by thinking...  :D
Many WITH a lot of experience show they dont have a clue how to do. Just go to a western supermarket at a day parents bring kids and see how they handler kids screeming because parent said No to something wanted. After a while most parents give up so they TEACH the kids to SCREEM to get what they want..  1f923.svg

I am/were a national famous youth leader before I got to injuried to continue traveling. dont know how many remember me still though  :)
But some of my first laughted at exersise methods became included in the material the national federation provide and recomernd (after I gave then permiission and have told them how to use them, after I had transformed two clubs from bottom to Swedish elite. So I am to easy to identify if I tell which sport.
Among that was solving problematic kids. E g one, who society had put in much resources at almost all years of his life to try to solve but FAILED,
I SOLVED in a few months transforming him from a messy very angry 12 yo kid to use his energy positive instead. Soon he became the best player in the region, started performing good in school and at extra job. Direct after high school he got a section boss work within computers...
And when I were substitute teacher for one, who had got a nervous break down. It was in my youth in a short gap between I resigned a well paid employment and I started own business,  I solved mobbing problems everywhere and a kid the school were writing a document to try to get rid of him, I solved in a few HOURS. He was just bored because he was so much smarter than the others. He even asked me to be their main teacher. but the school didnt even asked me to come back next day!!! (But I couldnt have finnished the semester anyway by I would move away from the capital city rather soon anyway, juist waiting for appartmenrt contracts date.)

Hi all,

Firstly a big thank you to all of you who make the Philippines forum one of the most active and animated forum of expat.com.

It is always a pleasure to read all of your discussions since I'm always stumbling on interesting things.

However, I have a tiny request to make to all of you.....
Could we please avoid personal comments?  We do not want any clashes happening here.

Well. Expect I ANSWER BACK to such personal BS and liar posters...

Dont expect they have understanding more than a very short time  - as toddlers  :)  - because thats what have happened when they have stoped earlier...

Theese three with - all with English as FIRST language - find it important  1f923.svg to complain about my spelling and grammar...   - between their LIES and BS posts against me...
NOTE they claim I  am often wrong about Phils, but neither of them have managed to correct me about Phils even a single time...

Hello coach53,

I understand the point you are trying to make but since this is a public space, little arguments are bound to happen.....

We all need to be the bigger person here and just move on

Also, I humbly request everyone here not to make fun of someone because his/her first language is not English.

Members of expat.com are scattered all over the globe and surely there will be differences between us and them. But ultimately we all need to respect one another.

As from now, any off-topic post will be removed.

Thank you once again,
