to access  basic services as they wait for residency cards.

In today's Guardian newspaper on page seven. Thankfully Bulgaria got its act together regarding Brexshit and residency cards.

It was very commendable how Bulgaria made it so easy for Brits to get residency after Brexit. Shame it all happened during the pandemic though.

In my opinion, we would have got our Bulgarian residents cards a lot quicker except that the UK didn't have a clue or except that the country would vote for Brexshit which meant the government where trying to " wing it" which in turn made things difficult for us in Bulgaria.  They still haven't got any idea how to proceed and covid was just the icing on the cake so to speak.

A perfect example of today's Mainstream Media not doing the job they claim is their reason for being.  A simple phone call would have told them all that this was a non-story, but it's what happens too frequently these days.  I sometimes wonder what news and features editors do while sitting behind their desks.

MSM are so rogue, I'm surprised that anybody believes what they read or hear that way these days. It's prudent to do your own research.

When I read the Guardian article, they also quoted a number of Brits in Portugal who'd had no problems at all. Possibly those who encountered issues were the "Don't you known I'm British?" types who think the rules (like apply for your new residency card on time!) don't apply to them.
I also wondered if they'd voted for Brexit! Astonishing how many Brits didn't realise Brexit would stop their free movement in Europe just as much as it limited EU citizens movement to the UK.
Of course, a few may have run into genuine issues, illness or being stuck in the UK during lockdown stopping them sorting things out. But the negative stories seemed to have just one source, which is always a little suspect.

The eu have been given the right to enter the uk and can stay for 6 months..makes my blood boil when its not reciprocated..
The uk can only stay for 180 days.
kaththomas2017
Well that's Brexit for you, what n earth should the EU reciprocate? From what I remember the majority  decided that they didn't want to be part of the European  community anymore now all of a sudden  some of them are unhappy with  the result of their votes wllgt on and live with it.  So now it turns out that fishermen  who voted to leave the eu have lost their market and an attempt to rename and market the fish that sold to the continent hasn't worked. Fruit pickers and other seasonal workers are no longer welcome here and as a result crops are rotting in the fields but hey the majority  got what they voted for so enjoy.
kaththomas2017
Sorry, 180 days is roughly six months. Also not what on earth should read " why on earth".
Some seasonal fruit and veg picker are traveling to the UK to work from Nepal.
Oh and Truss who's currently trying to take over from Boris did get a couple of trade deals signed with Australia  and New Zealand so get ready for cheap lamb products doing our farmers out f business.

I read yesterday that fruit n veg pickers are welcome.
Its not the eu reciprocating..its the uk
As they negotiate..eu citizens can come to the uk for 6 months
The uk can only stay in the eu for 180  days. Sorry  no need to reciprocate..its the same...but
Brits who go on holiday dont usually go for 6 months..180 days.unless they are residents..and with a residents card  can stay as long as they want..no restrictions..no passport stamps either..just show your card with a passport and tell them to stamp or no stamp.thats the rules set out.
Feel for russians.as they are now stumped..all visas for them have been suspended..property owners or not..bg has closed the visa section in st petersburg..1st they couldnt fly to bourgas..sofia..plovdiv..they had to fly to istanbul then bus it..and russians need a visa..so they cannot get in at all..shame..at least we have the freedoms. Our residents cards are good until renewal.mine is a long term so no worries. Some eu countries are acting as they should and implementing 3rd world country regulations...but not all do...its their choice..their downfall..
Glad to be of service.

Ok teacher..but except was acceptable.
wtruckyboy
@wtruckyboy sorry  got that wrong
Its the same..no need to level up.
kaththomas2017
Wwhich ever way you look at it great Britain  has made its mind up and decided to and has left the EU. So we cannot have a go at the EU protecting its interests,  it's all been sorted.
janemulberry
It's the same as a very messy divorce. Brits can't publish the sort of hate-filled rubbish about the EU that was being spouted to convince people to vote Leave, and then expect to get it all their own way in the divorce settlement.
