Are you a Medellin Guru?

Post new topic

Guest7953
Has anyone noticed that the Medellin Guru website has been offline for it seems a couple of months.  I was looking for a comment from an expat I recall reading saying he was audited 2 years after buying an apartment and that it is very common occurrence for expats who purchase property.

Most recent Facebook comments include:
Are you guys still alive? I haven't gotten a newsletter since March and I pay through Patreon. Thanks.
Johan Klok

Sebastián Arana Good question. The website doesn’t work anymore.
Sebastián Arana

Johan Klok Huh! I haven't looked in a while. I was only keeping the Patreon subscription so i could have access to the premium content, but i guess the spammers finally took them down. Too bad!

With the website being down, all of the valuable content is also down.  Best you can do is look at a snapshot of the website taken March 11th here:

The site was constantly complaining of hackers or
spammers who supposedly targeted it.

If anyone knows how to navigate the system in
order to stop the payment via Patreon -- three
dollars a month, I recall in my case -- please
post it on this thread.

Let me know if this works!

I had a Patreon account with them for two months before canceling because he didn't respond to a question I asked. I don't remember how I canceled, but either through the Patreon app on my phone or on the Patreon website. I assume my payment was made through PayPal, so I could cancel through them as well.
cccmedia
Thank you, Brother Archer.

In less than a minute, I was able to cancel.

South American Voyager

I just read on a Facebook post that the admin/owner of the site, Jeff I believe is his name, passed away a few months ago.

ChineduOpara

@South American Voyager Yikes. Do you mind posting the link to that story? Thanks.

South American Voyager

I need to look for it as it was posted on one of the number of Fackbook groups for Medellin Expat or the like.

cccmedia

According to a Facebook page posting by "Medellin Guru"

on April 5, Jeff was in and out of the hospital around

that time (multiple ER stays) .. and had spent a total of

five days in hospital.

The page also contained several "2022 Update/s"

on various topics and scores of other articles,

all dated March 31 or the first week in April.

cccmedia

I just queried Patreon via their online-support

messaging, about the Medellín Guru situation

and Jeff.

I will report back if they respond.

Starved for news from the Paisa capital?

Patreon has not responded ..and  the Guru site

or ex-site's welcome page is apparently

still not reachable.

Consider a visit to the free page(s) at

Medellin Guru is no more. Website is offline so no images or articles come up. all we have now is a title of an article with empty images...
@JAMES LINDZEY

As a former private investigator and current guru living in Medellin, we wish to hire you, pro bono, to find out where is Jeff

cccmedia

Patreon sent me a form to fill out, which they

use in case a Creator (i.e. Medellín Guru)

cannot be reached for a cancellation refund.

I am asking them for a six-month refund

($18 US en toto) since I believe the site has been

without updates since March or April.

Saw this comment on the guru's Face page from 5 days ago.  I have to shake my head at the lack of reliable sources on the internet.

UPDATE - Reports of Jeff’s demise were in error. He is recovering and unable to attend to Medellin Guru at this time. Hope he is on his feet soon! Heard on another FB group that sadly, Jeff passed away earlier this year. RIP Jeff. His Medellin Guru was such an amazing resource.

ChineduOpara

@N.Barley Facebook is a real dump of awful "human beings" (most still are, I assume) and misinformation. The only thing it's good for now is local shopping and dank memes. I should have dumped my META shares 6 months ago... but of course hindsight is always 20/20.

ScottU

Does anyone here have suggestions for other websites that offer similar information to what medellin guru used to provide?

RIP Jeff and thank you for the great solid info.

A video obituary has been posted online for the

late Jeff Paschke of Medellín Guru.

It's at Expat DCBornRob's channel .. in which

Rob includes a statement from an Expat group

that confirmed Jeff's passing.

Rob also includes his own thoughts about the

important work Jeff did during the first two years

of the pandemic.

Yes, thanks. The "In Memorian" available through the link of Hutch convinced me. The redirect to the  insurance broker is a name that sounds familiar. I think Jeff may have mentioned her in an article on health insurance.

It appears the old site is back.

cccmedia

Yes, the site's welcome page is back -- maybe someone

inherited the site.  However, the content appears to be

seven-plus months old, from March 30-April 2, 2022

according to the dates indicated.

I would treat this as a scam until someone at

medellinguru.com takes responsibility in a

credible manner.  In other words, don't subscribe

or authorize a Patreon payment until is confirmable

that new content is being produced.

Note that Jeff P. is prominently pictured on the

welcome page with no acknowledgment of his

recent passing.

I have spotted a modest update to the Guru's website, with a 2023 update to an article on How to get a Marriage visa.
