Tax management for Freelancers in Bulgaria

Hello,

Both my wife and I are freelancers online workers.

We're planning to move to Bulgaria in the next few months (this year) and we are looking for a tax admin agency in Bulgaria that works online and can speak English (it would be ideal if they also speak Spanish) to register us as self-employed in the country, and do all the monthly paperwork for us (taxes, quarterly statements, income statement, etc.).

Does anyone have experience with any tax agency and can recommend it to us?

Thanks, and best greetings!

Welcome to the expat.com forum. And good luck with your move!

Bulgaria is a great place to be a remote worker/digital nomad. Beautiful countryside, low cost of living, low taxes, and good internet.

You can be self-employed in Bulgaria, of course. But you might want to consider incorporating a BG company instead, as it has the same 10% tax rate. Then you can put yourselves as employees of the company (with automatic salary payment & deductions to government and social security). The company can expense work equipment (computers, phones), internet, company car, private health insurance, private pension, and more.

With your social security contributions you can get free state healthcare here, and get an EHIC card for use when you travel in Europe.

We have a village house in the Balkan Mountains... and we have fibre internet! 10 euros per month, about 70mbps. It's kinda amazing as we are in the middle of nowhere. :-) Not all villages are as good, but most have decent connectivity, so you can live and work in a village if you want a quiet life (and a lower-cost property).

We like city life though, the best are the biggies Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas... maybe Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo. Maybe even Bansko (small town, but big mountain/ski resort, if you like that kinda thing). We are in Plovdiv, and it is a GREAT little city (former European Capital of Culture). I much prefer it to Sofia (and it's cheaper), but still only 90 mins to the airport. We regularly fly Wizzair to Alicante as we have a place in Elche. But I prefer it here! :-)
