Hello everyone,

The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on the world, including on expats' lives. Travel restrictions, business closures, budget cuts, and health measures have created unprecedented challenges for those who have chosen to live in Cyprus.

Now that the pandemic is moderated, expats are adjusting to a new daily routine. So tell us, how is your expat life now:

Are there still any health measures in place in Cyprus? If so, what are they (wearing a mask, barrier measures, etc.)?

Have you noticed any changes in the population's habits or behavior after the pandemic?

What is your new work rhythm: do you still work remotely or are you spending more time in the office?

Have you changed your spending habits? If so, which ones?

Despite this pandemic and its consequences, how do you see your future in Cyprus?

Do you have any advice for other expats and future expats on this new daily life in Cyprus?

Thank you for your contribution.

@Mickael I’ve noticed a spike recently in Cyprus of Covid cases and I understand the same is says of the UK.

However it appears to be more of a bad cold than the original strain?

I understand that masks should be worn in medical environments and public transport/taxis but rarely see this implemented however there is I think a €300 fine if the police decide to take action.

Other than that businesses are hoping for a better year this year and with people reluctant to travel to Turkey due to recent earthquakes there appears to be a slight upturn in bookings however flights have gone up a lot and this could be a worry as with fuel prices up abroad and families struggling to pay their bills, a foreign holiday may be just a dream I’m afraid.

On a personal level I am very impressed with the healthcare cover here and the GESY system and received our 4th Covid vacs 4 months ago.

Hope that helps!

Despite a steady number of infections each week and a stable number in hospital it seems there are not many people masking other than in the necessary places. Hospitals clinics .... And to be honest public transport is included but rarely if ever enforced but I have noted the drivers tend to mask.

Mostly back to normal however on a personal note if I felt at risk with too many people in an enclosed space I would still mask and always carry one with me, but that's just me and my requirement for personal health reasons....

Sadly I do know of a few people who were positive and admitted to it and they still went about their normal business ....

No changes to my daily routines and socialising as am retired

@mickael Hello ! here is my opinion regarding "post pandemic covid" here in cyprus.

Indeed I see bus drivers hiding. when I ask the question if it is obligatory to wear the mask inside I am sometimes told yes and sometimes no. so it depends on the driver. Most tourists do not wear masks.

The price of food + rent + car rental has exploded due to the arrival of Russians + Ukrainians.

For example in just 3 months the rent of my house has increased by +250 euro.

For my part, I decided not to stay for all kinds of reasons.

But that's my opinion, some people will feel very good about it 😊

Most of the COVID restrictions have been removed now including public transport..

Costs have risen dramatically right across the board mainly due to inflationary pressures..  rents are now ludicrous 450-550 for a studio  550 -650 for a one bed flat 650-850 for two bed flat 950 plus for a two bed townhouse 1500-3000 for a villa

Crazy..and local residents of all walks of life and nationalities just can't afford it ... Imo it will.get worse...

The cost of living has increased across Europe, nothing to do with the arrival of Russians and Ukrainians. But the war has had an impact of the cost.

Our previous villa with pool and private parking rental was 500€ a month.

I have fairly recently seen it advertised at 1,000€ and 1,200€ !

That was only two years since we moved from one end of the same village to the other (nicer and quieter) end !

It meant an increase at the time, but SO FAR our current landlords haven’t put the rent up (though I’m sure they could) so it now seems very reasonable.

@WestCoastLives similarly when we rented our two bed fully furnished bungalow with a massive basement. .. private pool in it's own gardens with fruit trees and pergola ...what a bargain at @ €500.... we left there almost 21 months ago to buy our own place ...I dread to think what it could be renting for now but I'd hazard a guess it's not as bad as many others... The landlord and letting agent were excellent to us..

Any way on a personal note I hope things have improved for Terry .. it was nice to see you are still about... best wishes to you both
