Wishing everyone a safe holiday weekend!

For those new to this holiday buckle up!!!!

This holiday is taken very seriously by locals!  Meaning serious amounts of fun, partying, beaches, drinking and carrying on!

There will be a serious amount of  deaths by vehicle accidents, drowning and alcohol poisoning!

Many beaches and rivers are closed!  There are a lot of extra emergency personnel on duty!!!!

Don't waste your time reporting noise violations for the entire weekend, no one will care!

I personally enjoy the capital during this holiday as there is very very little traffic, perfect time to visit Santo Domingo!

Stay safe everyone!

RockyM

We are hunkered down on our property for the week!  The wet weather has probably dampened some spirits, but the partying will go on I'm sure.

@planner wishing everyone also and ditto to planner comments.

Well for me a large section of Santo Domingo   Norte has been without power since last night and I one of them. Thank goodness that I have a back up generator for my house.

So, even without power the party continues for the neighborhood.

Be safe and enjoy!

I once vacationed here for Easter week. Worst vacation of my life.

I will go to the resorts, beaches etc after the crowds leave!

polo1club

@rfmaurone Me too!!! Soon my friend soon! God willing!

Yeah whoever planned this week to las terrenas basically lost their money. Las terrenas is more of a quiet expat town where you can truly relax and  enjoy yourselves it should stay that way

polo1club

@calvinfromwilliamsburgh But it's their country! It has been this way since the beginning of time. Let them party! LOL

planner

All we can do is plan accordingly!

Already, announced earlier today,  35 accidents and I believe 25 incidents of medical care needed for alcohol and or food poisoning.

How many years has this weekend been going on in Las Terranas?

planner

To some degree many many years.  It grows every year as more people discover the area

RockyM

I am not at all sure why LT promotes this. Apparently the mayors office is responsible for the beach concerts and such. $$$ I guess. They apparently have difficulty controlling the crowds every year. We just stay away. Maybe I am old, but it all just looks stupid to me. Spring break in Daytona Beach is the same stuff. At least the idiots can't fall to the pavement from high rise buildings here.

DRVisitor

I cannot believe it is worth the hassle, cleanup, and everything else but the $$$ talks.

planner

Sadly it's usually about the money. I just saw a video of some of the garbage left behind. They should charge visitors a road tax to enter and that would pay for the cleanup

Many of the bars and restaurants close for the weekend because it's not worth the hassle! A friend that owned a place in the now-gone Pueblos de Pescadores right on the beach did not serve food and only stayed open for his employees. Most customers just wanted to buy ice, as they brought their coolers full of beer or whatever they were drinking with them. Many did tip the waitstaff, so he was "open" just for them to make some money - he was lucky if he broke even.

From what I understand, other than rent on whatever property they are staying in, many don't spend much other money here.

polo1club

@DRVisitor Since I was a kid in the 70's as I recall. There was nothing there back then. It is best to just stay home and let them do their thing! It's like the strip here in Las Vegas! I leave it to the tourist! LOL

@polo1club

It does not bother me but just curious on why they allow to happen each year. If I was a home owner in the area I definitely would not like it.

planner

It happens in many areas, not just las Terrenas. Some years the parties are way out of hand in Cabarete, la Romana.  Etc. There were huge out of control parties in some barrios of Santo Domingo.

Life here can be very in the moment!  Those living in las Terrenas know Easter is the best time to get out of town!

@planner

But it is definitely not the same magnitude as Las Terrenas.

planner

Some have been yes in years past. The hot spot currently is las terrenas
