From Northern Ireland to France

Hi all, my husband and I are living in Northern Ireland at the moment but plan to move over to France, it's deciding where to live. I am a self employed interior designer and my husband is retired but works a few days as a clerical worker and we would hope to continue working.

We've visited various areas in France mostly Bordeaux but would consider other areas hopefully not far from the sea as we currently live near the sea at the moment.

Has anyone any experience in setting up a business from home in France? Also are there any other members from Northern Ireland living in France at the moment?

Hi Heather,

Correct me if I’m wrong but if you’re a citizen of Northern Ireland (as opposed to ::residing:: there but holding an Irish -or other EU country- passport), you are, since Brexit, considered a third party immigrant and the rules re: obtaining a work visa imply include demonstrating that you fill a need that cannot be filled by EU citizens.

Can you please clarify your citizenship?

@Bhavna Hello and thank you. Yes, I have an existing business and would want to continue or offer the service online. I would also consider other employment options until the business was up and running as I have experience in Estate Agency and was a personal secretary. I know I will have to look into how self employment will work in France and the relevant taxes.
