Advice on safety of driving and staying in San Miguel de Allende

@Julien hello from Windsor Ontario Canada.  Retirement has fall on me and now the journey begins. My wife and I have spent many vacations in Mexico and thought about relocating but summer temperatures along the coast is too extreme.

Because we have a 3 year old dog, staying for months isn’t possible because we will not stick our dog in Cargo.

The plan,  driving and staying 5 months in San Miguel de Allende. We love what we see and the possibility of  living there full time is a possibility.

Advice on the safety of driving there will be our focus.
