If you are visiting now then this is pretty much the worst time with the weather - recent announcement that it is likely to hit 50 degree centigrade within the next week.  So the watch outs are to not be out in the sun too long, keep hydrating and etc.   The other watch out is difference in driving standards vs. Europe - drive defensively and expect people to do anything - especially the Saudi/Kuwaiti/Qatari number plate cars :).

Dress code for the swimming pool is like any other country in the world, so don't get that question :).  Also there are many shisha places around and best is subjective...............again, no issue with women.  If you want to go to higher end ones, you can go to any major hotel but most are outdoors........for an indoor one, go to Atrium mall, Lebanese restaurant on the first floor.........pretty good set up. Also shisha lounge in reef island.  Others can recommend more.

Exchange rates don't vary that much between places............depends on the currency you are going to exchange............USD would be the least variable.   BFC is good enough I guess.  Just don't exchange at the airport or you will get the worst rates.

Depending on the ages of the kids (and the watch out for weather):

Lost paradise of Dilmun

Al Areen wildlife park & zoo

BIC go-karting

Bahrain mall indoor go-karting

Gravity experience in Zallaq

Plenty of water activities.  Google.  Providers like scuba life etc

Day trip to Al-dar islands

Visit to Bahrain - Saudi causeway - even if you are not crossing, its worth seeing this 25 km long crossing

For live traditional music, these are higher end restaurants e.g. zahle in Gulf hotel and Pasawat in Sofitel.  If you dont order alcohol, the bill will be fine.  For good arabic food, you might want to try places like Lumee, Basta etc.

Well August is going to be the worst weather.  The worst weather months are from July to end Sep with August  smack dab in the middle of it.

You can check out manama souq.  Bahrain national museum is also nice.

I've just moved here and having moved to Dubai a few years ago, with a then 15 year old, there is a lot less to do in Bahrain than there, for kids. X Tang gives a pretty good account of what's available, but one thing he didn't mention was the city beach in Manama. This comes with an extreme weather warning at the moment, but it has all sorts of water based activities from jet skis to a big inflatable.

Hi @bryantaxwilliams

Thanks for you insight. it's saddens me to hear that . i hoping to give my kids more activities for their holiday since we are staying for 20 days.

maybe we can go to Qatar since is not that far awey and spend a few days, is there a farry that goes to Qatar?

Many thanks in advance,

XTang

No ferry to Qatar so far but flights have opened - short 20-30 min hop.  Extreme weather applies there too unfortunately.
