Spass and EP application at the same time

Post new topic

Camsran

Hi. I recently got 2 job offers. 1 ep and 1 spass. My EP was rejected so I went for an interview today and passed. The employer immediately applied my Spass. However, the rejected EP application employer appealed today. But there’s no assurance still that it will get approved. Question is, it is possible that 2 different companies can apply 1 candidate for spass and on the other hand EP? Is there conflict on this or MOM has to reject both or whoever approved 1st if both application submitted at the same time?

Please let us know when you  have better news. This is an interesting situation to be in.

@Whye choo

I called MOM today. The agent doesn’t know the answer as well. Hence, she submitted it to her supervisor and told me they’ll get back to me after 3 working days. The Spass application was submitted by 8:11 pm last night. The appeal for EP was submitted 10:01 pm. Same day. The submission of both went through but the result is about to find out.

@Camsran It is not normally allowed to have two work pass applications ongoing at the same time. The one that was submitted later will be rejected and only the first one processed.

@SmsT

Hi Camsran,

For EP,if you have completed necessary background check, hope to approve it. You made me motivated for job search as recently in Singapore very difficult to get offer.

Hope your work pass approve soon!

Update:

The MOM called me this morning. They will process both and no conflict, but of course only one application can be approved. Meaning, you can submit 2 applications at the same time. Can be 1 Spass & 1 EP by different company. But, you just have to choose. I told my agent about it & she told me to wait which one will get approved. I think I should wait for the result before withdrawing the other one. I’ll update once the result is out.

Another update just today: December 30, 2024

Last week Friday, I asked my agency who appealed my EP application to cancel it since I needed to decide immediately because the ICA/Immigration of SG questioned my stay in SG as I went to Batam, Indonesia for Christmas & when I get back, I was hold for almost an hour. Maybe because before I left, my tourist visa almost expired. Just 2 days left, lol.

So fast forward, I chose the Spass & my EP agency told me he will talk to the employer 1st. Hence, the application was still there & appears pending. I keep checking everyday my application & it appears EP application only despite the Spass was submitted earlier on the day they both applied. Today, the EP got rejected AGAIN. The Spass is not appearing on the website as per checking.

For now, I’ll be waiting again if the Spass will be approved this week since the EP got rejected. I hope this week I’ll get it because I cannot stay in SG for so long. Huhu!

I will update here again! 🫶

@Camsran Sorry, but as I wrote before, I still have my doubts about your interpretation of things.

It has never before been possible to have two ongoing applications running. You claimed it is a new development (which we here don't know about), which would be possible - but strange. Also that MoM called you about this is unusual - they normally only deal with the applicant (which is the employer)! That the system doesn't show the S-Pass application when the EP was rejected confirms my doubts that there might be no such application.

Also, you keep saying "my agent". You cannot engage an agent to apply for a work pass for you - that is not allowed. Also, an agent cannot cancel an application - only the employer can (or their appointed agent, wich then they must pay for), after you properly terminated your employment contract with them. Since these so-called "agents" are often less than honest, you may be victim of a scam here. Please double-check! (I hope you did not pay them for the application, which would actually be illegal and confirm that they are cheats.)

Furthermore, leaving the country on an almost expired STVP and returning after a short while was definitely NOT a good idea. Being held for an hour is a serious warning and now there is also an associated notice in your profile (which all processing officers can see). If you didn't receive a new work pass by then, make 100% sure that you leave Singapore before the end of the new STVP you received after this hour on hold!

Update today:

My Spass is approved!!! 🥹 My agent told me that my he knows the application. It took 5 working days only (excluding Christmas) for my Spass. By the way, both the EP and Spass is shown in the website. EP is invalid and Spass is valid. My employer asked me to start on January 2, 2025. That would be next week, Thursday! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! 🎊🎉🥳

@beppi I called it my agent because agency fee applies. I paid them for my work, arrange interviews, apply for my pass, handles IPA, etc. in which the agent is also affiliated to the employer. It’s not a direct HR from the company. It’s not scam at all since I met the boss and the pass has been approved. Same with the EP application agent/agency. My friend is working there currently the process hers. :)

Congratulations Camsran.

Hope you a good life in SG ahead.

@Camsran

When u say “agent”, they are the 3rd party recruitment agency acting as your Employer in MOM records but the project work is with the boss’ company you met.

@beppi - it’s quite common thing. Many companies go this way to - 1. Not worry about their own EP/SP quota. 2. Contractual job agreements so no need to pay bonuses.

also, submitting two applications is not new thing. I had two applications in parallel in Dec 2021. One got approved for EP overnight. Other took 2 weeks for SP approval.
