Hi there,

I got this job offer in Phnom Pehn which is very interesting.

However, as I have never travelled in asia before I really do not know what I could be expecting.

I feel one side that this would be a great opportunity, on the other hand I'm a very western guy.

Do not get me wrong i'm open minded but I do not know what to expect....and it will be easier knowing maybe other europeans or americans can show me around

Any of you guys have good advice, like:

1) Is the city safe?
2) Is it easy to meet up with other western people or are there places you recommend to meet western people?
3) What are the possibilities to go out? Are there good clubs with western music & so on......

My job would start half january....

any help is welcome!

Hey!

Congratulations on the job offer.

I'm from the UK and I moved to Cambodia about 18months ago. This is also my first time in Asia and I'm loving it.

Like most cities there is crime. You just have to be sensible and not flash around your cash, be careful with your bag, and other usual precautions. I've never had any problems myself, but know a few friends who have almost had their bags' snatched out of a tuk tuk.

Believe it or not, the expat scene here is pretty good. Always new people arriving. There are many art exhibitions, bars and restaurants to go to as well as a couple of clubs that play western music. The lifestyle here is good because living expenses are low and beer is as cheap as water!

And whatever happens, you're only ever a flight away from home.

Hi Samantha1

Many thanks for your reply.
I've talked to some other people and most of the mare pretty positive about the city.
So i'll probably take the job :-)!

Maybe see you soon!
