European CHEF looking for a job!!

Post new topic

Janthechef

Hi everyone,

I am 31 years old, experienced chef from Czech Republic who lived last 9 years in London,UK. I just relocated to Rio de Janeiro and would like to stay here for a couple years.

I have over ten years of experience in high volume, professional kitchens in restaurants, hotels, outside catering and even in private houses.

I do modern European cuisine on high standard level.
Any tips welcome.
Thank you!

James

Hi Jan,

Given your qualifications and experience, if you're here in Brazil, finding a decent job with a hotel or restaurant shouldn't be too difficult. In your particular case "the proof (really) is in the pudding," as they say. Right now, in the run-up to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio it's probably one of the best times ever to ingress into positions in the hospitality industry.

What you're really going to have to concern yourself with is first the Portuguese language, since it is almost impossible to get along in a working situation without being fluent in Portuguese. While English is helpful it is still far from being widely spoken here in Brazil. Your second most important consideration will be jumping through all the hoops in order to convert your visa to a Temporary Work Visa. Hopefully, if you land a job with a large hotel or restaurant chain maybe they will help you with this. Good luck.

Cheers,
