Australian wondering about Visa for Belgium :)

Hi,

I am looking for information on how I could get a Visa to live in the Belgium without having to return back to Australia.
I have a Visa for the UK which expires in 1.5 years and I am an Australian citizen, but a UK resident.
My boyfriend is Belgian and we desire to move to Belgium in January 2011.

My questions:

Would I have to return back to Australia to apply?
What would be an appropriate Visa to apply for that has a minimum duration of one year?
Can anyone suggest some helpful links?
