National Insurance

Hi everyone,

I am an expat from the Philippines and my employer here in Malta requires me for a national insurance number. My questions are:

1. Will it require me to pay automatically the national insurance in a monthly basis?
2. If yes, wouldn't it be possible to be excused to pay since I am already paying my social security in my country? If I still pay here, it would seem that I am paying twice for the same thing.

Thanks for your replies!

If your not working or living in the Philippines why would you pay NI?

Once you get your NI/ SSC number from the nearest job centre your employer needs that for tax and NI/SSC deductions. These would normally be taken off each week or month depending on the company and tis payroll. But beware-its your responsibility to ensure that your employer who is making these deductions is actually paying it into the system. i know soemone personnaly who got caught out with this.

I agree with Terry why woud you be making these payments back home when you are here working?
