Hi everyone

Hi everyone,

My name is Richard and I am seriously considering moving to Gibraltar but not sure where to start to be honest.

I currently live in Twickenham but fed up with the London life and feel like I need a fresh start.

I have lived all over the UK as I used to be in the Royal Air Force, so have no problem settling in places.

My main concern is employment.

I have a varied work history. I was an aircraft technician in the RAF for about 7 years, Telecommunication engineer for Sky, Technical Author for BAE Systems and Data Analyst for Serco to name but a few.

Can anyone recommend any recruitment agencies for Gibraltar?

Would it be a good idea to just take a plunge and move over then look for work as I will be here and able to start immediately?

Thanks in advance for any answers and guidance.

Richard.

Hi Richard

I don't think that just moving over is a good idea.

However I would suggest you come over for a few days holiday and take a look before burning your boats

Hi Richard,

Welcome to Expat.com!

Thank you for this introduction. :)

For your job search, i would also suggest you to post an advert in the jobs in Gibraltar section.

Thank you,
All the best,

I agree with Grumpy.  Work is very iffy at the moment. A visit would be sensible and to take some Cvs around the relevant places.  You could try the airport, gibtelecom, Not serco as they are terminating their work at the MOD, and maybe gaming companies if you are up on systems.

Hope that is some help.

Hi Richard,

what you should do depends on your personal circumstances I guess, are you married/partnered? Do you have kids, responsibilities,  a mortgage at home etc etc...? If the answer is no - then going over isn't particularly risky. I emigrated to Oz when I was in my 20's, it took me 6 months to get a job which was frightening, but it eventually worked out, of course the return flight was very expensive unlike Gib where the flight is cheap so returning early isnt a big deal. Be aware that rental property is very expensive in Gib, 1 bed flat = £1k per month. We have rented a flat over the internet and are going over in Sept. If you are relatively free you could simply go out and see what happens work-wise, go for a flat share in La Linea where rentals are cheap... Best of luck.
