Howdy,

Does anyone know if the DST in Brazil is nationwide or just specific states? I am getting conflicting information.

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

DST (Horário de Verão) is observed in 10 states and the Distrito Federal. Amazonas is not one of those states.

Clocks get set ahead one hour at midnight tonight in the following states:

Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Distrito Federal.

By federal legislation, since 2008 it has been fixed as starting at 00h00 on the third Sunday of October and runs until 00h00 on the third Sunday in February when the clocks get set back one hour.

This will create some difficulties for those members who live in states that don't observe Horário de Verão because ALL banks in Brazil operate on Horário da Brasília, so in non-DST states banks will open and close 1 hour earlier until February 17, 2014.

I believe that banks in Manaus - AM however will function on their normal times.

Hope this helps you out

Cheers,
James

Yep, it helps. Now I have to suffer through 'Amor e Vida' and 'Salve Jorge' one hour later! My sleep will be affected too :o

My afternoons will resume as normal with headphones muting 'Maria do barrio.'

:D
