Hi guys
I will be arriving Manila end of Nov for more than 2 weeks and I would wanna travel to Manila, Laoag, Donsol, Palawan. Would love to have local tips and meet new friends
Btw, is it safe for a girl to travel alone here and how about night time?
Thank you guys
Cheers
Like anywhere in the world, you need to be careful when traveling to new places you are not familiar with.
Saying that, this is a good place to check out your destination.
You can have a look/go through at the Philippines (Manila) forums and see what others say about the place..
Enjoy your travel... best of luck.

Thank you, I also found some great local tips in couchsurfing So excited
I wouldnt really recommend travelling alone, though it is possible. You just need to be super careful, esp if you are caucasian everyone will be staring at you and you will attract alot of attention everywhere you go. Ive lived here for 2 years and nothings happened except a taxi driver trying to scam me, but that said I am also very careful. Just remember it is 3rd world and people look at you as rich. In Manila there are security guards almost everywhere so stick around in those sites. Be careful in the provinces, there are no gaurds and alot if not most of the people cant speak English.
It's always best to travel with another person. Otherwise, book a tour with an agent so you'll be in good hands during your travel in the Philippines. My family can accommodate you but unfortunately we won't be back in the Philippines until before Christmas day. But I hope you enjoy your stay in the country. Stay safe!
Hi huyenle, welcome and thanks for planning for visiting Manila. Just be always very careful when traveling specially when alone. Anyways, if I can be of any help or assistance just pop me a message and I will try my best in assisting you.
Enjoy!
Hi huyene, well everywhere we go especially when alone, we always have to be careful.
Have u booked your hotel? you can try staying in my friend's hostel, its cheaper and you will meet young expats like you who are traveling around the country. Just google "pink hostel" the owner is a young american expat.
Palawan is a beautiful place especially El Nido, if you wanna go in Donsol, its best you are with group. Laoag is a nice place but laid back. Remember that these 3 places your going are using different languages but of course there will be people who can converse with you in english. PM me if u have more questions, have a safe and fun trip

Hi there
Safety of being out during night time in Phil depends on the place where you are at. Like what you've said, you just have to be very extra careful while having your stay there most esp in Manila. I mean, anywhere in the world we really have to be cautious right? And for your safety still, try not to travel alone..
Enjoy Phil.. Its really a wonderful place

I guess like any place the later the more cautious you need to be, just stick to the main areas and you should be fine - but of course being out at 2am for example is not a good idea in any foreign country you are new to.
hi there, thank you for planning to visit the Philippines. just like what the others said, it is best to travel with company and be extra careful. you will be here during the christmas season and sadly, it seems to also be the peak season for robbers and scammers as the holidays oblige everyone to spend. if traveling in Manila (around Quaipo, Divisoria), don't wear fancy clothes or expensive jewelries or big bags that can easily be snatched. dress simply and carry only a pocket-sized wallet.
anyway christmas celebration is also one of a kind here so i really hope you enjoy your stay.

A person from Vietnam does not appear to be caucasian. Vietnamese need not be told about 3rd world countries, they live in one. I agree that communications in the provinces will be more difficult because of the lack of English speakers, and there are taxi cab scams everywhere in the world. Hopefully you will find a female companion for your trip.
Hi hunyenle2012. It's great that you plan to visit the Philippines but I wish you picked a better time . Just make sure you're out of Manila before the 2nd week of December. I mean, you should be Palawan bound by then, or to other places in your itinerary. Traffic in Manila will be a nightmare as it nears Christmas. Even I, a local, don't take my vacation until it's very near, or after, Dec 25 (I'm currently based in Dubai). You will find yourself stuck in traffic for hours and all malls/restaurants will be very crowded. For Filipinos, its part of the festivities but for a foreigner, I don't think you'll enjoy the rush and traffic much. It's okay to travel alone, just always make sure to keep your stuff safe, as what other bloggers have already stated above.
I've been to Laoag and Palawan. You can reach Laoag by bus (10 hours) or plane (45 mins). It's easy to go around the city via public transportation. In Palawan, I think it's better to take a tour package if you plan to go to the caves/underground river or to island hop. Hotels usually provide this, or join a DIY group tour organized by some locals and meet other travelers. However, please check the situation in Palawan first. I'm sure you've heard of the super typhoon that has recently hit the Philippines and I know some parts of Palawan were affected. By the way, people in the provinces are usually friendlier. Tipping is recommended though, in hotels and restaurants.
I hope you enjoy your stay in the Philippines
thank you for accepting my friendship Just contact me at 6969nobody@gmail.com as i cant send any mail here
