Hello,

So what is the reputation of the above-captioned online magazine? Is this a good source for Brazilian news? Are there any other similar publications relating to Rio (i.e., local English papers/magazines)?

Thank you,
Montrealer

James

Hello Habs Fan, (at least with your user name you must be one)

There is a bilingual blog www.riorealblog.com that's fairly good, but I thinks the author, Julia Michaels, seems to wear rose colored glasses a lot of the time or she's swallowed the Brazilian government's BS hook, line and sinker most of the time.

Despite being overly pro-Brazil she's usually pretty accurate with her information.

The online versions of both the New York Times and the Washington Post have frequent articles about Brazil that are usually spot on too. They tackle social issues from-time-to-time, but mostly talk about the politics and economics. They often run translated stories from either O Globo newspaper or from Estado de São Paulo news. If you're really into the economic and political scene there are also some very good articles in the Economist online version too.

Cheers,

Actually, I was an Expos fan (before the franchise was moved to DC). Alas, the Habs are not doing very well this season....

Thank you for the response. I'm an avid reader of both the NYT and The Economist; I agree that both publications offer well-written articles relating to Brazil. However, I was looking for something providing more quotidian coverage... (I read at a fouth-grade Portuguese level, I'm afraid)
