Hi guys

I have a question I hope someone can help with.

If you are a Third Contry National, working here for 1 year with an official work permit and paying fully into the social security system, how does it work with medical insurance?

Is it:

a) Covered in the social security payment you are contibuting to

b) Something that the employer has to pay for

c) Something you have to pay for yourself, in taking out a private insurance.

Much appreciated if anyone knows about this....

Hi Miko,

it is the same as with anybody else paying contributions.

You get a NI number and you pay half the amount and your employer pays the other half and then you qualify for free treatment.

The work permit terms for non-EU's actually state the the employer has to pay for private health insurance but I've never actually seen or heard that happen!

Cheers

Thanks for clarifying Ricky - that was pretty much what I expected.

What threw me was the 'The work permit terms for non-EU's actually state the the employer has to pay for private health insurance' thing, cause obviously that makes no sense.

Thanks again!
