Hi Cathy95, happy to hear the good news.
Discrimination in Mauritius - you still have the after effect of colonialism in Mauritius (unfortunately), but most of the population is dark skinned so I guess there's not much difference between South Africa in that matter and Mauritius (I'm only guessing, since I've never been to South Africa).
Vacoas Phoenix is nice. No real nightlife in the center, but for this you have to go either to the north or the west. You do have pubs in the center such as "The Flying Dodo" in Bagatelle shopping mall. Movies indeed most of them are in French but in Bagatelle shopping mall you have some in English as well.
Regarding student life, I have no idea. Hopefully somebody here would be able to answer you.

At 6 p.m there's a cinema which project english movies. It is at the bagatelle mall. And there are quite a lot of people who can understand english, so communication will not be a big problem. :)
