Hi there,

We are looking at immigrating from South Africa. We have 4 children aged 14, 8, 4 and 3. The eldest is in high school on an Academic Bursary and the 8-year-old is on an Athletic Bursary - both at a Curro Select Private School... the little ones in pre-primary.

If possible, can someone give me information as to which schools offer bursaries; which schools to consider; government and private schooling, if there is any major difference between the two curriculums...

I have found a few schools on the internet, however, majority of those listed do not have a website to browse and I know it to be better to ask those who actually live in the areas... the internet helps, but the residents know their community and can assist better...

Regards

No bursary as you are not a citizen.Only if you are a Mauritian then you get it.The little schools who give it are not very good.

We are moving in December from Botswana and our daughter will be attending the West Coast high school.  We looked at this one and the Northfields school.  As our school year here in runs January to December we chose the Westcoast school as they are the same.  Northfields runs August to July.  Something to bear in mind on your search.  So far dealing with the school from a distance has been a pleasure.  They can also put you in touch with private busses that pick up the kids.  Natasha

Hello everyone..

I wanted to know are curriculum followed in govt schools and private schools different?

Or they follow same curriculum… wanted to know for my std 3 daughter

Ceresiet

As far as I know the Private schools follow an International curriculum - either British or French, according to the language medium the school teaches in.

This would mean that children leave high school with an international qualification (SC / HSC / GCE / Cambridge IGCSE O-levels and A-levels)

Welcome to WISS!

Founded in 2014, Westcoast International Secondary School, the only English-medium secondary school on the west coast of the island, has moved into its brand new premises in Uniciti in January 2017.

Westcoast Secondary School is part of the Uniciti Education Hub  encompassing the whole education offer of Uniciti.

In Form 1 to 3, a challenging, engaging and international minded concept focussed curriculum is studied by all pupils, The International Middle Year Curriculum (IMYC).  It is our job – of course – to engage all students in their learning but also to encourage and develop intellectual independence to a high level.  In form 4 and 5, the students work on a curriculum established for the IGCSE. These are external exams, set and marked by Cambridge, England and taken at the end of Form 5. WISS is an International Baccalaureate World School and is authorised  to implement the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.   The programme will start in January 2020 with form 6 students.

Our classes are small with a maximum of 25 students, in order to emphasise individual attention.

As soon as you enter our building, you will notice that our students are well-rounded, friendly, open minded and true global citizens who work hard and enjoy learning.

If you get the chance, please do come and visit us.  We’ll all be delighted to see you.

About Northfields:

From its small beginnings in 2001 with 9 students and renting a small house, Northfields has grown to over 400 students housed in more than 5 000 sq. metres of buildings.

The school was founded in 2001 by a small group of eight parents living in the North. They got together and decided to put their hearts, minds and finances together to create a school, with a family atmosphere for their children, allowing the School to open its doors in September 2001 to its first student intake of 9 pupils.

In January 2003, the new school grounds were ready. Slowly, Northfields offered students their own dedicated floodlit full size rugby and football fields as well as cricket nets and pitch. Northfields also has its own 25m swimming pool which incorporates an Olympic size water polo pool.

In 2014 and 2015 Northfields under took a strategic review and decided to realign its educational offering into 2 schools, Preparatory and Senior.

Thus in August 2015 Northfields increased its academic offering to students from the age of 9 years old and offered a Year 5 and a Year 6. Northfields thus rebranded its “forms” to “Years”, and consequently the prior Form 1 became Year 7.

In 2015 an opportunity also arose to acquire an early learning centre for children aged 18 months to 3 years. This centre presently has 40 children.

In August 2017, Northfields inaugurated the new boarding school which is a ‘home away from home’.

Then in August 2018, to further increase its academic offering, Northfields opened its Nursery and Primary section, making it the only school on the island offering education to children from 18 months till 18 years old.

Northfields is and will continue to be a shining star of the beautiful island of Mauritius, tucked away in the lush green sugar cane fields, with its gorgeous grounds and beautiful coastal breeze.
