I WANT Obamacare while living abroad

I see lots of articles about American Expats wanting to find out if they can opt-out of Obamacare requirements, but I don't see any about the opposite.

I am in excellent health except for that I am on a double dose of Humira which is around $6000/mo.  I want to move out of the country and was hoping I could still be covered under an obamacare plan while doing it.

I realize it would not help with getting hospitalization or anything in a foreign country, but just to get me my meds would be worth it.

Any help appreciated.

Hi sla,

Obamacare is available to all legal residents of the USA.

So if you move out of the country and become resident elsewhere would you still be legally resident in the USA to qualify for Obamacare?

To become resident anywere in the EU you will need health insurance that covers you in your country of residence and the rest of the EU. Pre-existing conditions are not covered by private health insurance.

Strictly speaking you need health cover, not health insurance, so if you are working in Malta and paying Social Security contributions, you will have public sector health cover. However, if you are non-EU you will need health insurance even then, is that correct Ricky ?

Hi George,

strictly speaking yes! It is one of the requirements for a work permit for non-EU citizens but ............. I'm not sure if the requirement that the employer gets  private health insurance coverage for the employee within 3 months  is followed up on. In many cases it seems not .

Cheers
