Hi, my name is aamir, I am living in Abu Dhabi UAE.  I recently applied in Taylors University Malaysia for my wife as student in Bachelor's degree program 03 year full time student and she has been accepted, however, I have 02 kids the elder one is 06 years old and the younger is 03 years.

I applied for both of them in the School as well and the school said that after assessment they can place an offer.  I have some quarries which after long conversations and information exchange I would like to share and need expert advice.

-Recently as per the immigration new rule children below 7 years old are not allowed to apply for student pass so my wife cannot be a guardian.
-As per university my wife is undergraduate student and she cannot apply for her kids as dependent.

what are the ways that my wife can keep the children with her and study at the same time. I have exchanged lot of emails with the school and university authorities but did not get a clear answer.

There is no solution as they have just closed the loophole.

Fees for schools are RM 2K each per month and upwards  depending on the quality and location of the school. Add in at least Rm 2000 for child care.

it's a very big budget needed.

I applied for my kids in Taylors International School and it will cost approx. RM 1500 to RM 1600 monthly which is not an obstacle for me and I am fine with it however, if I would even bear the cost of my kids schooling whatever then is it possible. My wife is already been accepted by the Taylors University.  I really do not how to clear this fix.

Gravitas

There is no fix. The kids can't be enrolled until they are 7 years old.  There is a MM2H programme in which you could participate, but it requires a regular offshore income and a proof of assets of RM500k.  Plus a fixed deposit into a Malaysian bank account has to be made. Check out www.MM2H.gov.my for details.

However, you as the breadwinner would need to make the application (you don't have to live in Malaysia all the time). Your wife and children would be dependents and could enrol in education. NB, there are lots of upfront fees with international schools and other expenses, such as books, outings, etc. etc. So the price you have been given (its an unproven school that is just opening) is just for the tuition fees.

Nemodot

Hi your kids need own student visa but that would be difficult. You need specialised advice.

As for Taylors Uni its quality is very bad. If you are paying so much I suggest a better Uni. Sunway is better but the best are the British universities in Malaysia like Nottingham, Reading and Herriot Watt are also new in Malaysia. Even UM is lot better than Taylors Uni.

Gravitas

The COL in Malaysia is rather high, so it is definitely not an easy option. Also, some nationalities are treated badly here.

Gravitas

Aamir, I also think Taylor's is a strange choice.  Have you visited the University?  Basically from what I know and have seen, it is a yuppy uni, with lots of middle class Chinese Malaysians in the student body. Perhaps Nemodot knows more about the "populations" at the local universities? I certainly think others have a better mix of nationalities and ages? What subject is she thinking of studying? There are Universities that specialize in different subjects and are well known for their results in those fields, as well as research. Taylor's is not one of the research universities, just a plain school. Its also quite difficult to get to and surrounded by motorways. Best to live close by or have a car as public transport can be difficult, but they have shuttle buses from certain locations.

Gravitas

There is no restriction for enrolling kids in education if on the MM2H programme.

MM2H Enrolling for education

Just updated earlier post as proof of liquid assets is now RM500k. Fixed deposit into Malaysia Bank is RM300k (needs confirming) withdrawal of 50% after one year. Must have RM10k income from offshore sources per month.

Minimum property purchase by foreigner: RM1m. (No immigration rights by buying property). Not mandatory to buy property.
