Beer and wine for kids - and in Indonesia, some toddlers are smoking!

At the dinner table, I've seen Dad give beer and wine to the kids. One is just 3 years old.

Not huge quantities => this is no big deal? Just wondering as I would expect CPS to come down on me like a ton of bricks if I was filmed doing that.

In Thailand, I've seen toddlers without helmet on motorcycles. Once a Dadheld a baby in one arm while weaving in traffic.

Is this common? Do parents give alcohol to their kids?

Who cares what Indons do, this is the VIETNAM FORUM.

The short answer is NO (just a crazy game of a crazy dad)

Kind of over reacting don't you think so ?

Well, I do, but only the smoking was about Indonesia.
You were rather rude, so should apologise.

You are involved in Indonesia, so your interest is understood. I think you are a touch to sensitive, too.

On the helmet thing; every day when I'm out I see toddlers held in the parents arms while they ride the bike. This is not uncommon here at all. With large families and one means of transport, its not surprising that risks are more abundant here than in wealthier countries.

On the alcohol thing; You said yourself it was 'small quantities'
In Western society, before the PC Police took control, it was not uncommon to give a kid a shot of whiskey to help them sleep before bed. Many sleep remedies and medicines contained alcohol. The key here is 'in moderation, nothing will kill you.' (except perhaps a tiny bullet)

When in Rome...

Beer and wine are less of a problem in Indonesia, so the thread is probably more about somewhere like Vietnam, with a side mention of Indonesia.
I'm guessing that's why it's in this section.
