Americano in the provinces

I arrived in Manila two weeks ago, took the Partas bus to Ilocos Sur, and have spent time in Burgos, Narvacan Mall, several trips to Vigan, ate in restaurants four times, and have not seen another Cano the entire time. The only westerner I saw was the Greek Cypriot marrying our niece. Several houses were shown to me where a Brit or Italian or German are supposedly living. It seems that on my previous two trips, 6 and 11 years ago, I saw some white people in Vigan. Of course everyone here in IS is very friendly and I feel very safe here among friends and family. I think it would be difficult for an expat to live here unless he was married to a local. The Vigan Christmas music, lights and water show at the central fountain is very well done, but it does not appear there is much here for a single expat to do. There are some nice beaches, but the surf is very small to almost nonexistant. Vigan is a beautiful old Spanish town, but after a few visits it is just another provincial capital. I really enjoy the night winds from Lingayan Gulf this time of year, making sleeping with the windows open very pleasant, no fan required. We will be returning in the future.

Funny thing, it's my observation that in provinces a lot of expats keep to their self's
We live in bicol, I see heaps of expats but only have meet about 20 and only socialise with about 6, my reasoning is they are happily married or incognito

In Ilocos Sur I had little choice.
For me it would be nice to speak to other expats who know USA sports, music etc
My family is concerned as the only white guy I will be targeted for crime,
but I walked two miles every morning on the national road, only met smiling, happy people.
