What kind of veterinary care is available in Malta?

there is not the technology that there is in malta.i have had to import one paticular drug from the uk for my eldest siamese who passed away recently. on the other hand vets here are a lot cheaper than the uk. i have lived here for 3 years but going back to the uk ,once my house is sold

Is there good vet care in Italy or somewhere within an hour or so's boat or plane ride - chartered if I have to?  I'm not looking for cheap as much as good.  I have turned down job offers in countries with quarantine requirements, even when my cat was healthy, so . . .

Is that the reason you are going back to the UK or other?  Or if none of my business, pls ignore.

There are some very good vets in Gozo and Malta - the one in Gozo has very modern equipment.

Are these small animal vets - do they have to have the same qualifications as vets back in the UK?
Does anyone know about vets for larger animals such as horses?

Hi, this is a late reply , as I am new to the site.
I am well aware that the Maltese Vets are very highly qualified having their EU wide recognised degree from Universities in Italy. The reason is that the practice is not taught in Malta. So to take up studies, applicants had to at the time ( besides attaining their high scores in  three Science A levels generally Oxford or London) qualify for sponsorship from the Italian Goverment. This enabled them to study at the internationally recognised Universities in this particular field such as Universita di Perugia.

So no doubt that the Maltese Vets have a EU accepted Degree and many practiced in Italy  before returning to Malta.
