Hey everyone

My name is Sean. I'm 31, currently living in the US. Im self-employed and considering making a move to Phnom Penh. I spent about a year in Thailand and fell in love many aspects of SE ASIA (food, weather, culture, people, etc)

Ive never been to Cambodia but Im ready for some new adventure. From what i've read here on the forums, im gravitating toward bkk1 and/or russian market area, though i will have to experience them in person to know for sure. I do want to be comfortable with some western amenitites but it doesn't have to be anything crazy. Good coffee, reliable wifi, easy access to food and shops...

I will likely start my adventure by staying in hotel for a few weeks while i settle in and start exploring the different neighborhoods.

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in bkk1 area?

Thanks for these forums and sharing your advice! :)

I see in your have the surf board icon, are you going to be looking for surf while there?  I have been searching the internet for breaks and board rentals while we are there. I guess April is not a good time...

in BKK1 you will not be in Cambodia my friend, but in barrang land or foreigner land
It is much better to sat in daun penh, street 63, that is the middle of everything and in 2 mi!nutes you are in BKK1 or at the riverside , Kandall market and old Market
I live there since some time and can only recommend you as a start to stay there
There are plenty hotels with big rooms to accommodate people that want to stay longer, prices go for 25 doll a  night upto 65 . All breakfast included , swimming pool, good wifi .

Hi there njsurfer25,

Try serviced apartment as a cheaper option. Search it in  TripAdvisor to check some places with reviews from previous clients  or  just simply google it.  Internet in Phnom Penh is reliable and most of the establishments, restaurants and coffee shops have it.

Give Cambodia a chance to explore. Warm and friendly people. Just ask for help if you need one.

Cheers, mate!
