How is everyone?  Can't find any definitive information on how the hurricane is impacting our future home???

Lasted longer than Irma, but much less rain & a bit more wind here in Sosua. Power back 9:30 PM. Good luck with your home.

Thanks so much for the update.  Haven't got a home there yet but hopefully soon and in your area.  Pls. take care.

The storm was much longer lasting and dumped a lot more rain all over this country. Thousands have been impacted by it.

And we are still feeling the remnants, bands of wind and rain still here in Santo Domingo.

Santiago, san Francisco de Macoris, Nagua and other areas hammered by rain and flooding

I think it must be terrifying and extremely stressful.  Must admit, been wondering if I could live under such threats.  So glad the beautiful Dominican Republic and its people was spared the very worst of the hurricanes.

Yes it can be damn scary buy in some ways truly beautiful the magnitude of nature.

If you are feeling safe in a concrete block well.constructed house, then it is a lot easier. If you have power backup and food stocked up, then it can be an very interesting experience.

Ive lived in tornado alley, in an earthquake prone zone and here. You adjust and manage and always plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Does anyone know if Sosua had sustained hurricane winds?  It didn't feel, look or sound as if we did.  Gusts do not count, only sustained defines a hurricane.    Less rain here, but a bit more wind. I'm sure other parts ofthe island did get hit, but I doubt wee did.  After 8 of them I believe I can make  an educated assunption.  Am I correct?  May all of you be OK with this storm.  A Gitano blessing for all.

planner

I believe you had tropical storm force only.

I don't know for sure if we had hurricane force winds here in Las Terrenas, but it looked and felt like we did. Lot of damage, the storm surge cost us a lot of beach and trees along with it, plus some large portions of road washed away.

planner

I believe you only had strong tropical storm force winds honey!  I will double check.

No hurricane strength winds in Sosua or anywhere else in the local area.  Some places lots of rain some not so much. But where it did rain it caused some major flooding.  The bridge in Jamao that suffered major damage in November's floods (basically collapsed but still folks dove over it) is now basically gone as well as most of the new construction on the "new" bridge. This area will need some major $$$$ from the government to get it fixed.

Forgot to add we lost two more roof tiles an no other damage

There was damage all over the island! Almost all is rain and flooding related.  Some areas really hard hit that were not expecting it.

For those here - turn on channel 37 and watch the local news. Coverage is extensive. Even if you dont speak spanish, watch and get a sense of what has happened. Try to put yourself in these peoples place to understand what they are coping with!
