Importing clothes & various products into Vietnam

Post new topic

Hello All,

I’m new to the forum. I joined because I have been searching for information on importing various products into Vietnam and wasn’t able to find anything on Google.

I have a cousin who imports clothes from South Korea into Vietnam and another cousin importing various motorcycle parts from Thailand/Cambodia into Vietnam. Both are making very good living. I’ve always thought of doing something similar but obviously can’t really ask them about their trade secrets.

So I’m here looking to lear from the experts. How does one import such items as clothes into Vietnam and what are the tax/import duties implications?

Thanks,
expatguy

Have you ever heard the saying "Don't bring coals to Newcastle?"  I know it is a British saying but my father used it all the time as his father was British.  You can probably get the idea.

I know there is a problem finding large sizes in Vietnam, but I think that may change with time as Vietnamese get bigger due to enhanced nutrition.  I had middle school students who were bigger than I was.  Vietnam is a major clothing exporter to the US.

I’m really curious about how people import things into Vietnam and still be able to make a profit. Just looking for opportunities to do business there since I speak the language.

If you can speak the language I would look on Vietnamese forums.

Speaking Vietnamese would give you a big leg up but it still may be hard to find the right items.  If you are not in Vietnam now, I suggest that you visit again to look and ask around.  Duties vary from item to item.  The TPP would have removed most or all of these duties but that ship has unfortunately sailed for the US.  Of course the recent decision by the other eleven countries to go ahead without the US will put US products at a further disadvantage in VN.
