Hello,

Many expats choose to move to the Dominican Republic at a specific time of the year, and we invite you to share some tips about the best seasons to move to the country.

What is the best season/time of the year to move to the Dominican Republic, and why?

How do rent prices fluctuate based on the different seasons?

Is there a change in the job market depending on the seasons, such as job availability?

Are there any seasonal festivals or cultural events that would allow you to learn about the country?

What are the times of year to avoid for expatriation to the Dominican Republic?

During which season did you move? How did it go?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

OK I will respond.

If you have kids usually you move when school is out.

If renting and moving to a tourist area try to move before high season.

Job market is very tough, don't expect to move here and find a job.

Don't move here until you have visited and know what you are getting into.

I moved here in early Mach 2002. The move was predicated upon the sale of my bar/restaurant in St Croix USVI. I had been visiting since the mid-90s. Having lived in the islands for more than 20 years prior to the move, the seasons climate had no effect on the timing. As Planner suggests, your own circumstances are what makes one season more beneficial than the others.  Financially better deals in all aspects,   For EVERYONE who moves here there is a period of adjustment, learning & compromises to be made. Even moving from one island to another is a huge change of culture & systems. It is a grand adventure to embark upon.  Though in the tropics, there are definite seasons. Not just the eather, but also economically, and the numbers of people in the tourist areas.  I am lucky, anytime that I could move here was the "best" time of the year.  read, read, read the various threads. They are full of info that will answer most of your questions. Keep posting, many folk here have mucho info for all of you.

Why do you keep saying, "Don't expect to move here and find a job"?  I have 3 friends (1 not even a Spanish Speaker) and all three had jobs within 6 months.  As Expats we are well aware that the pay rate won't be the same.  But finding a job is not impossible.

Ok if you have residencia and a cedula and can live on DR pay grades - yes it is easy to find a job.  Without that then its bloody hard.

If you speak english or french and are.legal to work there are jobs in call centers almost immediately abailable. Pay starys at about US 600 a month!
