Hi my name is Joe and I am looking to move to Malaysia to be with my girlfriend (we met In person so not getting catfished). I was wondering if anyone has jobs or know and jobs in the Georgetown area or anywhere on Penang Island? Also if anyone has experience how should I go about moving?

This process will take about a year in the timeline I set up.  Any tips or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Gravitas

Penang is probably the hardest area in Malaysia to find work but it is possible in a small number of sectors, mainly IT.

It's a case of just applying for jobs and see what happens. Jobstreet and Jora are quite good online recruitment portals. Sometimes Robert Walters has vacancies in specialist areas. Once work and thereby immigration is sorted out, the rest is plain sailing.

There is this visa type as well https://www.mtep.my/ and having a skillset to then establish a business with a local Malaysian is another avenue (paid-up capital is required).

The main requirement for an employment pass is a degree and 2-3 yrs relevant experience. At Diploma level the required experience is 5 yrs.

Ok thank you.  It gives me an idea of what I am up against. I know it wont be easy but I'm up for the challenge.

I've checked out jobstreet before but not Jora so thanks for the suggestion as well.

Hi Joe,

So did you finally settle in well? What is/was your experience?

I am looking to travel to Penang next month.

Thanks and kind regards.

Cheryl

Hello Victoriamnajjuuko,

Welcome to Expat.com

This thread is quite old, so I suggest you start a new thread on the Malaysia forum to ask your questions.

You are more likely to get answers if you do that.

Cheers,

Cheryl
