Secondary schools in Mauritius

Post new topic

Hi All,

We are considering move to Mauritius by Jan 2019 latest and I have been trying to find a suitable school for my daughter.  She is going into UK year 9 and is in mainstream school but has some special needs so requires a small school with caring attitude who will nurture her and then she can be happy and learn.  While on vacation in Mauritius last month, we visiting both Lighthouse and Morning Star, both of which would be ideal, but both are full in Year 9 for Jan 2019.  Please can you let me know of any other small, private English schools which would be options for my daughter.      Does anyone home school in Mauritius while waiting to find a place?  Is it easy to find tutors to come home to tutor my daughter in different subjects (English, Maths, Science, French etc.)?  Thanks so much for your help

Hi,

I don't know about the Mauritius alternative for UK Year 9 but yu can check out Clavis School in Moka.

There are some expats who home-school their children but I'm not sure about the legality of this practice.

There are private tutors for almost all the subjects in Mauritius and they give private tuition after class hours. It's always at their home or some other venues but you can always negotiate for some home classes.

Hi, there is a British Expat in the island called Sophie Le Brozec. She has a blog and she has just started homeschooling her daughter, she is really helpful when you contact her, just google her name. Good luck x

I think your best option would have been really Lighthouse as they have a very good reputation and they also cater for special needs. Good luck with your search but homeschooling might be the only sustainable option in the meantime

I am praying a place comes up at Lighthouse as we loved it, but nothing as yet.  I will visit a couple of other schools (St Nicholas and an American school?) to see if they would be suitable when we get to Mauritius in November, but if not, it's a case of waiting for Lighthouse as I can't just put my daughter in any school with her special needs.  I know she can thrive and has thrived in the right place, but the wrong place would be a disaster zone!
