Hi, I arrived in NZ on June 28th, I hold a parents multi entry visa . My daughter and grandaughter came with me and we share a house, I have two more daughters and there families also living in NZ. we had planned to come almost three years ago when they closed the Parent Grandparent category to clear a back log of applications. This was proposed to take up to 2 years. The category has not yet reopened as planned which I believe should have been in October 2018. I am now very worried as this would have been the visa I required. All my family now live in New Zealand , I have nothing inEngland, even my home has been sold. desperate times call for desperate measures and I wonder if any one can recommend an agency to help me to gain residence, possibly on compassionate grounds. Ideally an agency that won’t break the Bank of England. Any advice will be most welcome.

Hi Doreen,

It’s taken me and my husband close to 3 1/2 years to gain entry into New Zealand as permanent residents.  We applied via Expression of Interest in June 2015.  12 months later — June 2016 — we were invited to apply for permanent residency via Tier 1 Parent category.  In December 2016 we submitted all of our detailed background checks, financial checks, etc.  Given it’s nearly the end of 2018 and we just received approval, please know it can take a long time to get through the process.  We hired an immigration agency and I’m happy to recommend them, though please know this approach is costly.

You can file an EOI with no guarantee INZ will process it quickly.  As I said, it was 12 months after we submitted our EOI that we were invited to apply.  You’ll need to ask one of your children to sponsor you in the Tier 1 parent category if they are permanent residents of New Zealand.

This is the agency we used.

Good luck,
