Residencia renewal - actual process

Post new topic

@Nanosaso  I had an answer written out, and then re-read that you are Dominican.  I have no clue about that at all.

@UncleBuck, you know after I read my own question, I realized the answer to it was already included in the question. Being that I'm already a Dominican citizen, then I should renew my cedula as a regular Dominican citizen would.

That answers the other question also. Since I'm a Dominican citizen, I'm not considered an expat / residente extranjero.

So, only one question remains. Where do Dominican citizens renew their cedulas? Do you know if Dominican citizens can renew thier cedulas at the new place - 27 De Febrero location mentioned in your thread?

What documents beside presenting one's cedula, do you need to bring? Like I said, this would be my first time doing a renewal. I haven't arrived yet, though I'm very excited of what lies ahead. Any and all pointers, tips, advise are more than welcome!

I'm hoping my transition from US to DR would be a smooth one. I only wish I could import my 2016 SUV with only 17k miles, looks and drives like brand new but it's past the 5 year cut-off requirement. I'll have to sell it and that really sucks!

Was wondering, which is better to sell or keep one's home furniture and have it shipped?  Which of the two options is more cost effective? Considering shipping cost and import taxes. Maybe, it's better to sell everything and start fresh. Any ideas?

Thanks

UncleBuck

@Nanosaso  I have no clue, I'm an Expat and not familiar with the process at all.  Your other questions would likely get better answers in a thread not related to Residency Renewals, I believe.

planner

You do not renew your cedula in the same place expats do.  I believe you can renew in various places across the country.

The rules for importing your furniture etc are totally different!

Please start a new thread on this topic honey. That way you will get better responses and it will be stand alone for future searches.  Thanks! 1f60b.svg

@Nanosaso   shipping is exoensive and a hassle

Nanosaso

@sharonnickerson Good info. Thanks so much for letting me know. I'll sell what i can and donate the rest. I really appreciate your input because you've helped me decide the best way to save and avoid the shipping hassles and all the worry attached. Thanks a bunch!

The cost of residency as of today 3/11/2024 is 21000 pesos plus 10000 pesos for cedula if your residency has expired it's an additional 1700 pesos per month for each month it's expired up until 12 months after that you must begin the entire process from you home country

CHRISTOPHER DAVID56

@JRP55 is this renewal? First time retirement petition is 28k, 6k+ medical exam and 3k+ cédula per the DGM website again for retirement residence

JRP55

@CHRISTOPHER DAVID56 I have a retirement investors residency which is good for two yrs and cost me 42900 pesos because mine had been expired for 7 months but the cedula is 10000 whether expired or not

planner

Ok let's make sure we are comparing apples to apples.

Retirement and investor residencia are different.

And let's keep it to one thread and not complicate the other thread on overstay penalties

JRP55

@planner I was there this morning renewing my residency and while there are different types of residency the fees are now posted and appear to be the same the only difference I could see was the length of time the residency is good Retirement residency 1 year Investor residency 2 years Permanent residency 4 years

CHRISTOPHER DAVID56

@JRP55 this is what I was refering too on the DGM website for retirement first time applicatant on current DGM website

JRP55

@CHRISTOPHER DAVID56 Wow that's about 38000 pesos for a one year residency that's insane

JRP55

@JRP55 I was strictly talking renewal fees that are posted at immigration in Santo Domingo and have more than doubled since my last renewal about 2 and a half yrs ago

carolmarchena

@JRP55 which  type of residency are you renewing?  Each one is slightly different than the other.    For example, if you are doing RT9 Residency Temporary  Ordinary, you will not meed a medica exam
