I tred to post this and lost it. Try again....
Let's use this thread to state what we all do and support each other when we can.
So state what you do. Own a business say so. Work for someone, say so. Offer a service, say so.
No commercials please. NO phone numbers, websites or emails. If people wanna contact you they can use the private message function.
Let's get started....
Planner aka Baby doll.
Great suggestion. Right on! Now let's all support Planners good and sound thought. I am behind you (broke butt and all).

For the past 30 years I have developed novel and affordable technologies for the oil patch. Basically coming up with new stuff or making stuff which is too expensive affordable for the mom and pop stripper well market. None of that to do in the DR so...... I'm heading up to Oklahoma on Wednesday for a month long polymer job by which time my house will have sold and I'll shortly be on my way to the north coast.
Going to dive back into alternative energy in the DR and try to acquaint myself with what some of the larger and common problems are on the island and see what might be done or adapted to assist.
In every problem there is generally an opportunity to do well whilst doing good.

I am a construction professional, a chartered builder and construction manager, with over 45 years in the industry and nearly 18 years working in the Caribbean.
I have been involved in almost every type of civil and building work over my career, but more recently have been in charge of some very large high end hospitality developments from the design stage and to completion.
I now prefer a much less demanding schedule and work freelance including on a consultancy basis through my region contacts, and my base in Santo Domingo is ideal when I have to visit nearby islands. Being asked to evaluate projects in distress or damaged (as was the case after Hurricane Maria), is something I have enjoyed where I can use my wide experiences.
I am a swag queen. I sell logo'd merchandise. Tees, tumblers, gadgets.... The company I work for says we logo Everything Under the Sun. I have only done this for 4 years. I used to be an admin and event planner but was downsized 5 years before being ready to retire. I enjoy sales. I adore event planning. Problem is, I am tired of working on a schedule!! Lol....
I designed some koozies and shipped them to Sosua. My vendor shack friend, Juan, has them for sale in his place. The nuances of marketing is not a concept that is easily explained to the beach selling guys. But, I am working on it. 😂😂
I would like to keep in touch with you. I may have some work for you in the near future.
Christe, contact Doug at Plan B, hecould use some promotional help.
This will take several posts to begin to tell of such a long & varied life. Living through the 40s,50s,60s,70s,8os and up to today & embracing all of the changes has produced a plethora of stories & experiences. Seven different kinds of business plus sex, drugs & rock & roll. From hanging out with Kerouac to Mason Hoffenberg & George Montgomery. From Patsy Nuzzo & the Castellano brothers to 5 islands to find a home here in the DR. Not unscathed, but unbowed. I'll be glad to tell more if you are interested in tales from a wandering Gypsy's travels through life. There was success, tragedy, humor, tears & love, bound together in the joy of challenge in this perplexing adventure we call life.
This thread is about what you do here, now. Your history honey can be told in your thread that I opened for YOU please!
Thanks. Just trying to keep this thread clean.
You rascal you. I have lived in each of the years you existed, but I must admit, I missed many of your episodes. I am not sure if you are bragging, complaining or just "saying it, like it is". Either way, it sounds as if you, are a miracle to be alive. Lol. I didn't see anything about marriages?
Some day, I would enjoy sitting down with you and a few dozen 600 mg Presidente cerveza, my treat, or the bigger ones, and listen while you get drunker and drunker, should you live that long. It would be very entertaining, to say the least.
I am confident we could sell tickets to the other expats, for an evening to be remembered.
I enjoyed listening to your past life. Thanks for sharing. You are truly a one-if-a-kind Tinker 40.
But Planner aka Baby doll is correct. She opened this thread for sharing what we currently do, so to enhance networking with each other.
And, I have read several expats experience, that are of interest to me already. FYI, I am still involved on an expat blog in Guangzhou, China and they are very focused on networking.
Kudos to Planner.
Forgive me for I have sinned once more. I make and sell hot sauces. Meet friends & talk with interesting people. I sold my L.L.C. & now with limited vision am putting together a compendium of recipes wth correspoding stories of how they came to be. Many come from the characters I've met during my life. Training my chow pit bull mix to acompany around town. Learning about Haitian history & culture. Spend several hours a day on the net as I soon will not be able to. Trying to pack as much into each day as I can. I hope this fulfills the threads requirements.
Sure ain't bragging or complaining. When life just comes along and you happen to be there, it all is just 'Normal'. Only inretrospect does it become a little different than most. Staying on thread, I do meet people & have great sessions of tale telling. I do not however, become drunk, maybe just more unintelligable, what I call being more profound. . Will PM you
Thanks Tinker now we all know! THIS IS HELPFUL!!!!! And I for one would buy the cookbook! In whatever form.
Noted. I look forward to your PM.
Hi All: I have been a member of this forum for a few years now, and have had the pleasure of meeting some of you. I am a aviation engineer and probably on my last year before I finally retire from this industry. When someone asks me when will I retire, my standard answer is when I am old enough. I am over 65 but find it hard to want to retire. I guess I am fortunate to be doing something I enjoy. The short answer is I get to fly the world on a business jet, stay in 4-5 star hotels. I have lived in many 3rd world countries such as India, Bangladesh, Nigeria. Now I am looking forward to living in DR. No matter where I go, every place is what you make of it. I will be arriving DR early part of February. I can't wait.
Greetings - An interesting thread and as mentioned above some potential future contacts to help me with certain things in the future. At present, I have nothing to offer but have a great amount of experience in HR and working with folks of varied nationalities in operational security, customer service, personnel management, etc etc.. In the past I developed business concepts and attempted to start a non-profit biz that assists veterans. Once I finalize residency here and become stabilized, I may plan on some sort of biz. THe more I read, the more I see potential for possible Expat services. Keep the posts and info going. Thanks Planner - another great idea!

2VPSOLDIER.
PM me to discuss your past experience. A CV if possible.
Planner, there is unrest at the top, perhaps fear of a uprising on the reservation? Stick it to them. I make a recommendation for Planner & her perserverance (SP) under all the mire.
I love how you jiggle when you giggle ................
greetings to everyone on the expat planet. i am a retired old dude who is relaxing and taking in the vibes in the DR. in a past life i was an insurance automobile physical damage appraiser. parting ways completely with things automotive was just not in the cards for me. so, today i help expats, or anyone else, to find a good used car, and to protect every one of them from being a victim of local tiguere sellers. i search for the best possible car, inspect it thoroughly, and negotiate the best price. all this is done from a position of strength.
don't try this at home. call me if you need to take the plunge.
Well said and well put. Not blowing your own horn?
I will.
Meet Planner. Erudite, well spoken, tenacious, energetic, caring professional woman in the health care field. Intense, appropriately sensitive and reasonable.
Might, when pressed, advocate for ONE thread only that was completely unmoderated which could be obliterated in an instant, or 'flushed' when needed. May. May not.
Working in breezy Oklahoma in the oil patch 7 days a week for a while to get my stuff together to come back to the DR. I'm going to rent to start. I really want to dig into all of this a lot deeper.
All best and kind regards to all of you!
JR
Hi guys,
I have had a few different work lives....I worked as a realtor in NY and moved with my Husband in 2004 to Florida and got my FL realtor license too. We have built 16 homes (NY & FL) which is what I really love to do! We live in them and sell after about 2 years.
I worked for GE as a Field Auditor for 8 years in FL and that's when I let my Realtor license go. I have sold my last 8 homes "By Owner" so I guess I don't need a license LOL!
My husband was a steel worker for 25+ years so he was asked to help start up a new plant in MS and I was hired as the plants Sales Coordinator, it was supposed to be a 5 year plan and then move back to FL, but we really didn't like living there at all and moved back to FL after just 2 years. For the last couple years we have been working Florida County jobs (two different Counties lol!😂). No stress jobs with great benefits.
We are selling our house and don't plan to build another one because we're trying to make DR a reality Soon! My real passion is interior design, every house we built my favorite thing is picking out the decor and making it our home, I can't wait to do that in DR!!:-)
Thank you everyone for your acceptance of the spirit of this thread! I believe this is a great help in building community.
Hi, I’m Theo. I arrived here just over two years ago as a specialist in International Fine Art and Interior Design. Mainly Antique paintings. I advise and consult remotely from here. Since then I have added Acting to my quiver as well as property rentals and more. I am open to all new opportunities as this country is the land of multiple roles! I am mainly based in the Samana Peninsula but will also be living in Santo Domingo from this February.
