Oh...I Didn't Know That!

Post new topic

I just found out a crucial, although trivial, piece of info, and thought we could expand it.  I was thinking there has to be other nuggets of info we have collected over the years (or months, in my case), that aren't life-changing, but helpful to know nonetheless.

My example is:  If you own a brand new home, don't let the sprinkler water hit the outside walls.  With the hard water here, it rusts the paint, and voids the warranty, if you happen to have one.  First time I turned the sprinkler on, and the owner of the complex himself knocked on the door and told me this.  Duh!  Makes sense, but I didn't even consider it to be an issue. This will hold true with older homes too, I would imagine?

Also, those containers of little white and blue balls to dehumidify your closet and dresser drawers are awesome.  No more mould on clothes or fabrics, and it's cheaper than a dehumidifier, or running the AC uneccessarily.

Thanks - great info to share!

leave your ceiling fans running as well.  Moving air helps stop mold and for sure that musty smell.  A ceiling fan uses very little electricity.

I have an attic exhaust fan for the closet.... solar powered

Stick the panel on the roof... the exhaust fan in the window.
Simple....

Upon your advice, we bought several of the blue ball (lolol sorry but ya kinda teed it up for me) humidity doohickeys. Anxious to see how they did upon our return in 63 days!!!!

kochaniutki

where to buy these blue balls?

UncleBuck

They're sold in grocery stores and the dollar stores.  Clear plastic tub, with a divider 1/3 the way down holding some white and blue balls.  Not expensive, but they pull humidity our of the air in closets and drawers.  Great for vacation homes, right Christie?  See you soon!

They look like this.

They are readily available under various names here!

Are they single use only? Robert's uncle will be in our condo soon. We we're going to ask him to empty them. But, I suspect they are single use...

UncleBuck

I tried to dump one, and it was slow, and the balls mushed.  I suspect one-use but I have seen the balls by themselves to refill a container.

Single use, buy refill packs.
