Anyone else get stuck in Cambodia with flight restrictions, borders closing and such?
And anyone any ideas on how to get out?
I'm  in Phnom Penh BTW.

JoeKhmer

Are you serious?

You want to travel internationally in a time that people are urged to stay home in order to contain the virus?

I can't believe this,  you're as bad as the 34 French coming here and visiting many places.  All French are now In treatment and who knows how many people they have infected!

Don't travel internationally,  stay where you are!

Joe

Let me rephrase...
Anyone else  had their flight cancelled a  day before they were meant to leave Cambodia to return to  their home after a two month visit and now find they are stuck in Cambodia with a visa expiring and when trying to source a flight ticket out, find that no agents are selling tickets to anywhere?
So yes...Im a little bit serious...
ps, can I come stay on your couch for a month, or maybe 6, to try make my cash reserves last as long as possible?

hello

It's a pity , no irish embassy in Phnom Penh , but I can see this :
"""Emergency Assistance
Because there is no Irish Embassy or Consulate in Cambodia, we are limited in the help we can offer you in an emergency situation. However, if you need assistance, you can contact the Irish Embassy in Hanoi.   """""""
( from the site :  https://www.dfa.ie/travel/travel-advice … /cambodia/  )

Embassy of Ireland ,  Hanoî , Vietnam :  https://www.dfa.ie/irish-embassy/vietnam/

Sorry , can not help more , good luck to you , Ch

Eugene Booth

Thanks. Had contacted the Irish Embassy today but not much they can do either. Also bumped into a few other blokes while out and about and all having the same problem.
May chalk it down to an unexpected mis -adventure...

Everyone saw this coming,  closing borders and canceling international flights were already overdue. Some people keep travelling unless they are told no.

I'm glad flights have been canceled and borders have been closed.  The majority of cases in Cambodia concerns imports,  either Cambodians coming home but even more cases due to not-so-clever foreigners.

Don't travel internationally!

Perhaps write a strongly worded letter to the the Editor of your local news paper if you are wanting to express your anger over covid.
What you post is of no real assistance  to anyone.
Thanks.

I’m living in Hanoi now. I cannot leave nor do I want to. The borders are closed and international flights are seriously curtailed and soon to be cancelled. I was originally going to visit Cambodia in May and get a new retirement extension. Not sure now. The latest thing I’ve heard was from the American embassy here. They cannot get us out and won’t try. They have told us to wait for an indefinite period of time. No one knows what that means. So I am unsure about visas there but for me I am going day by day. I have no idea any more about visas and overstaying but I do think I am safer here. I’ve lived in Cambodia and Vietnam for some years so I have Vietnamese and Khmer friends that help. But the basic thing is you are not going to go and neither am I. And we don’t know when we will go. For cash reserves may I suggest renting a single room in PP? Here in Hanoi I have a room for $200 USD a month. It may hold you over and let your cash last longer.  The room is not the best but I’ve lived here for a month now. I did fly to Saigon from Hanoi a few weeks ago. I will not be doing that again. I definitely understand your needs. Rooms for rent can be found on Airbnb and I’ve seen room for under $200 a month in PP.

Cheers, Got a place at a good price for a month via asking a bloke that has a bar here.
Read today that Emirates that had grounded their entire fleet a few days ago have been convinced by Govts to get their planes back in the air, So they are starting some of their routes again, plus W.H.O have said grounding flights and closing borders are ineffective and doing more harm than good.
Hopefully things start to improve from here.
Streets are dam quite in Phnom Penh,  The hotel I was staying in has shut up shop, I checked out today and the remaining guests were all sent to another hotel.

Good luck. Glad you found a place. Best thing is some place to sleep and give some security until you see how things go. I’m hoping to reach Phnom Penh in May. I met a housemate from South Africa today with same issue. His visa ends last day in April. He wants to find a border to cross over and get a new visa. Fear is we can go but not get back in to Vietnam again. Not gonna let it worry me now.

Take care.

I would contact the American Embassy in PP, there is suppose to be wide spread effort from the State Dept to bring back Americans to USA.  Also, contact your Congressman or Senator for help to expedite assistance.

If you are collecting SSI and income less than 75K in 2019 and have direct deposit, even if you didn't file in 2018 or 2019 but did get the SSA 1099, within a few weeks you should get $1,200 deposited into your bank acct.  If you go to IRS Website and look at the coronavirus update, disregard what it says about having to file, they changed to where you don't have to do anything if you didn't.

If you are not collecting SSI income but elsewhere, if you qualify, you can still get it.

So based on media reporting in the states, State Dept announced it would do everything possible to help Americans oversees to come back thru every means possible.

I hope this helps, keep your hands disinfected and avoid touching your face when you are out.  Washing your hands thoroughly and often and void touching your face is your first best defense as well as keeping your distance from other people.  Wearing a N95 face mask in crowded situations may not be a bad idea but if you don't take proper care and maintenance, you can get infected from improper handling as well.  Also, do not think getting back to the states will keep you out of harms way right now.  Nation wide implementation of "Social Distancing" is in effect until the end of April.  So as others advise, staying put if you can get financial aid would be your best bet until things cool down.

China is currently in the process of hoarding medical supplies to fight coronavirus in an effort to inflate the price and make huge profits from the pandemic that they created.Trump is the only leader who is calling them out on it.I appreciate that our president puts a higher value on human life the he does political correctness.I can't argue that Trump does tends to be confrontational and  very undiplomatic quite often. However he has done more for America then any other living former American president.I like for America to have a solid relationship with most countries, however I agree with him that we should not allow them to manipulate us as they have been doing for decades.I have been involved in negotiations in the past with representatives of other nations to try and get them to honor agreement s that they had signed after WW2.It was like trying to talk to a stone.I hope and pray that Trump succeeds in getting back what we have lost because of politicians who were too weak to pressure our supposed allies into honoring their agreements.China will try and escape facing up to their financial responsibilities after the coronavirus has passed. It is expected that the virus will cost America over 4 trillion dollars.I am thankful that we have a president who has the cahones to withhold that money from our debt to them.

Yes your right calling this the China virus is really helping , also saying it will never come to USA and then saying it’s a hoax , hows that working for you?

Retired Expat

I did not say that coronavirus is a hoax or that it will not come to the U.S.A. it is not a hoax,it has killed thousands of people here in the U.S. and I am really worry what will happen if it spreads all over Cambodia as Cambodia does not have the medical facilities to handle a pandemic.I do not see how in the world anyone can not call the coronavirus a Chinese virus. They created it.President Trump has tasked American intelligence agencies to gather information to determine if the virus leaked as the result of a Chinese effort to create a biological weapon. After he knows the actual origin of the virus I hope that everyone will soon know so that an effort can be taken to ensure that it does not occur again.China knew that the virus had escaped from their lab for several months before telling the world about it.The world heath organization did not help matters when they announced last December that the coronavirus is not contagious. The fist case of coronavirus occurred in the U.S. on Jan.21.President Trump organized a task force to combat coronavirus on Jan.29 Currently China provides many of the medical supplies used in the U.S. and have started hoarding them in an effort to profit from the pandemic that they created.Trump is calling the coronavirus a China virus because it is and they must be forced to act responsibly. They have already demonstrated that they have no intention of voluntarily repaying the world for the cost of the pandemic as they are hoarding medical supplies to inflate the price and have tried to blame to virus on the U.S.

Eugene mate!!
Sorry to hear about your situation, I wish I was there to help you with lodging but came back home in the States to work back, but now I see myself unemployed instead so, I wish I would have stayed there instead. My relatives don't speak English, and I'm the only foreigner they are use to seeing. I live in the Koh Kong province area when I'm there.
Sorry to say that JoeKhmer was right when recommending that you should stay put, and yes, you are struggling, but believe me you are in a better place.
Don't despair mate!
I know that the Cambodian government did implement an extension of the tourist visas and other regulations without penalties.
Check out the Phnom Penh Times online if you can. They posted information and other assistance needed for foreigners such as a voucher for hotels and no penalties fees for expiring visas.
Good luck and may Buddha bless you.
