Where is the best place to see the night sky on the island?

Is the Milky Way visible anywhere?

RockyM

I am interested as well. We have not busted out our telescope since we arrived here in July. We have a Celestron NexStar 8SE and we are eager to use it!

I am thinking pretty much anywhere away from the cities and light pollution!

And trees!  The villa we are renting has too much foliage for a skyward view.

Little late to this post, but I wanted to comment that when I was living there (in rural Santiago Rodriguez) the stargazing was truly breathtaking. There were times that it felt unreal, especially if there was a new moon. The Milky Way was on full display.  There's a little more light pollution now because electric posts have been installed in a lot of the smaller towns but it's minimal compared to the city. Excellent visibility. All visible to the naked eye.

We're doing our part to try to keep light pollution down! As we build our home, all of our lights will shine downward - with the possible exception of some motion-activated security lights!

In a couple of weeks, we'll be moving to a different rental for the rest of our construction time and we're hoping its location means we can finally break in the telescope!

Is that Venus low in the western sky tonight?
