Water sources

Post new topic

Our ministry has “adopted” a village outside of Santiago where we will be building on to an existing church and establishing a feeding center for the children.  Can anyone tell me what the average price is for a water tank (a very large one)?   Also are their different water delivery companies in the area, and is so, could someone recommend a reliable one that would deliver multiple times a week if needed and a ball park price per gallon or liter?

Thank you in advance!

That's pretty awesome.

Question - is the water tank for regular water or drinking water?

Regular water….  Like the big blank tanks that set on top of houses, etc…

You say you will build a feeding centre next to the church and that suggests to me quite a few children, washing up and perhaps toilets and sinks.

One of the largest black plastic tanks you can get here is 600 gallons.

Plan on 10/12 gallons per day per child. You quickly see you will need a turn around of trucks and it could get a costly business.

So here are a few suggestions:

1. Is there no 'town' water you can bring in?
2. Capture the rainwater water off the church (gutters/downpipes) and feeding centre roofing and build a big under ground cistern to store with pump room. Plan on $10 sf to build with plumbing. You can always then use tankers to top up in a period of drought.
3. Investigate if the geology is good for a well and if you can get a permit. A lined 100ft well with submersible electric well pump will cost you about $2k assuming the ground is decent. You will still need the cistern and even a plastic header tank.

For tanker water Lopez is in your area and a big contractor.

Thank you!  That helps out tremendously

Sounds like solid advice.

By the way the big black tank is called a tinaco.
