I have resigned the volunteer position of moderating these forums. For somewhere around 14 or 15 years I have mostly enjoyed the roll. I have met a lot of new people and for that I am grateful.

I am done being accused of various things.

Now I will say exactly what I want to.

Rest assured I will still pass on my knowledge and advice. I will still help.

However, now if you are being an ass or an idiot I will say so!

Oh no! You have been so informative! Hate to see this! Hopefully you don’t disappear and please keep in touch! We would love to meet with you when we’re in RD again February 2022!

I will be participating honey no worry!  I am not going away!!!

To moderate anglophiles in DR and keep to DR related subjects is clearly very hard.

Forums are here to be informative and about our home the Dominican Republic but  constantly get sidetracked and tough moderation is essential.

I have often thought planner you were a tad tough at times and we have had our difference,s but the events of the past 24 hours or so with personal attacks from a select few have made me appreciate that a much tougher approach is needed with the full support of Julien and his team to make this a solely DR forum.

Perhaps planner you can be persuaded to give it another go?

My heart is fully in DR with my extended Dominican family and I will try to continue offering insights into this lovely country and the real life of Dominicans in the campo with articles from the Dominican press translated.

This forum now have some really good contributors as the group has grown over the past few years and the dialogue and help being given is perhaps the best that can be found on an anglophile forum about DR and planner takes much credit for fostering this.

We are in a time of change in DR and I am no dinosaur looking backwards and talking of the past. I support that needed change for the betterment of Dominicans and am supportive of the current Dominican governments objectives and operations albeit not always fully agreeing what they do.

It remains my plan to become a DR citizen yet some posters question my commitment here. Well I am more of a barnacle than some of you will ever be, such is my tranquility and attachment with DR.

The francophile expat.com also had some problems in the past I am told, and those have be sorted by really tough moderation getting it back in track about DR and for the good of that forum. I am fully supportive if we get this anglophile forum back on track and about DR with no hint of foreign politics and false news.

I am so sorry.  You have been such a wealth of information.  Like Lennoxev I too want to become a citizen.  We are still in our renewal period.  Your help, especially with health insurance has been invaluable.  This issue almost made us go back to the US.  We love it here and for those with negative comments I will ask the question "Why did you move?"  Unfortunately I checked everything out before we moved except for the health insurance.  Negative comments are unneccessary and come from people who have nothing better to do then drag everyone else down.  We can all have a difference of opinion but there is always a nice way of doing it.  So I thank you Darlene for all that you have given to this forum.  I look forward to your contributions in the future.

Sorry to hear your decision, now you can speak your mind,
It must feel good to take in a good deep breath…….

Planner,
It is sad to read your post.
From the moment I was greeted on this forum, by you, to the present, I thoroughly appreciated your thoughts and info. You, along with folks like Lenox or ddmcghee and others have helped me get plenty of insight on life in the DR. I have been following along and I appreciate it.
I am pleased however, to see that you are " not going anywhere"
DON'T RETREAT !!  RELOAD !!
THANK YOU.  BEST WISHES. 😘

ddmcghee

I'm glad you're sticking around, but certainly understand your frustration!

I am so sad to hear this!! But happy you will be living a little (or alot) more stress free!! 💃
You have given me so much info over the years and insight on so many topics in the DR. My husband and I have been looking into retiring to Curacao and flying there 11/9 to meet with builder.  If we find its not for us we will be back to buying  again in DR which we still love!
Thank you Darlene for telling it like it is! 💝 and sharing your knowlege and experiences with all of us!!!!!  Kat

Thanks all!  I am not leaving I will continue to share my experience and insight as well as my opinions. Now I won't have to restrain myself - someone else can moderate.

I continue to love this country and encourage others to give it a shot!  It's not for everyone but it's definitely for me!

Julien

Before everything, a huge thanks to Planner for all her help. I will contact you in private.

I have removed a few posts from this thread, which were completely off topic.

I'll just add (for now) that our moderation will now become less diplomatic and more drastic.

planner

I will continue to  share my knowledge and experience. I am not going away completely. I always did this because I am passionate about this country!

I have really enjoyed your moderation!  Thank you 🙏🏼

Also looking forward to seeing you not good back on the asses and idiots!  I won’t be holding back either ☺️

Thanks!

You go girl! Gloves are off! 😄

I have enjoyed, appreciated and learned from your comments. I have often winced at comments made by others. Being only a short timer, I can still appreciate the diplomatic ( IMHO) way you corrected/moderated. I will be reviewing the Health info you sent tomorrow after I return from getting the (shudder) winter tires on my car in the morning (Weds) and will PM you. Great to hear you'll be still speaking out - unless Julien moderates you out....hahahaha. Until later......

Community building is hard. It takes a lot of time and effort to do well.

As primarily a consumer of communities, these days, I would say that ad-hominem attacks and getting off topic are two things which cause me to click away from a thread the fastest.

Spirited, but informative debate can often seem like a blurry line and will surely seem confusing to some how one is different from the other.

Enjoy your break from moderating, planner.
