I will be doing the same thing as you jesusmontes.  I will be traveling to Bahrain to look for work at the beginning of September and will be sharing an apartment with my fiance.

What I've been told is to keep a low profile, don't make it obvious that you're not married.  It can be an issue if both of you are working in the same company btu I haven't heard any horror stories so far.  I have western expat friends that are living together in Bahrain but not married and they've had no problems at all.

I hope it works out for you and best of luck with the job hunt;)

Hi guys and welcome to Jesusmontes on the forum,

There is absolutely no problem with living with someone you are not married to ! It comes to be an issue when we are talking visa. Usually, the husband comes first to work and brings his wife and kids afterwards on his work visa. You can't do that with a life partner, you have to be married.
A lady can work and have her own work visa. But then, even if she's married, she will not be allowed to bring husband and/or kids on her visa. As per the law, and as a expat woman, yo can work as long as you're single. When you get married and have kids, you are expected to remain home :D
It's even more surprising to me as Bahrain is extremely progressist in matter of women rights, and not only by the government will but the population is pretty open minded regarding these questions.
So at the end of the day, whether you both find a job... or Mr finds a job and proposes to Mrs  :p

Regarding the fact of "living together without being married", there are a lot of single people renting a house with friends to reduce the costs with mixed males/females tenants and I've never heard any problem or whatsoever.

I don't see why you should face one...

Looking forward to seeing you in Bahrain soon

Yours

Olivier
