Eligibility for Permanent Residence Card

Post new topic

azeemkzn

Hello,

I am a student of VUB, pursuing Masters in Educational Sciences (in 2nd year now). Post completion of Masters, I would get a search year visa extension for a year (to find a job). During this time, if I land a job, I am willing to stay in Belgium for long as I am falling in love with Brussels :-). I read that person staying for 5 years can apply for PR card, so my questions are:

  1. The 5 years include 2 years of Masters and 1 year of search year?
  2. If I travel to my home country for couple of months or more (this is for thesis), would it effect on the timelines?
  3. What is the eligibility criteria apart from having a decent job?

Truly appreciate the kind response.

Regards,

Azeem

1) Your master's is counted for half the duration.

2) nope. Not if you make it less than 3 months.

3) you can check IBZ website. For L card it's 1500/month.

dee_keem

If you are non-EU, your Master's is NOT counted

richeekdey3

@dee_keem Can you elaborate? I'm non EU and I was granted the L card. And I did not work yet for a full 5 years.

Theking123

The master's count fully, but you need to have  CDI contract or job permit to be able to apply for PR you cannot apply if you are a student

Theking123

check this website it might help you ;)https://www.jeminforme.be/je-suis-majeu … puis-5ans/

Theking123

@richeekdey3 which 1500 you are speaking about!! you need more than 3000 to have single permit otherwise you don't have the right to stay in Belgium. Please be sure before providing any infos

richeekdey3

@Theking123 for L card. I never said single permit. ;)

dee_keem

@richeekdey3 The student stay of nationals of countries outside the European Union is not taken into account for the calculation of legal and uninterrupted residence. In other words, the student stay of nationals of countries outside the European Union cannot be consolidated in Belgium, regardless of the number of years of study spent on Belgian territory. To consolidate their stay in Belgium, the student concerned must change their residence status, for example by applying for a residence permit based on the exercise of a professional activity (salaried or self-employed work) or family reunification.

Theking123

@dee_keem yes exactly that's what I wanted to say, so they actually count when you work afterwards

Peterjohn123

Where is the latest legislation that you guys mentioned? It changed?

Why did not the stays of Non-EU students are counted? Source pls!

Until this summer!!! PERMANENT RESIDENT TYPE D(L) - NOT B (B NEVER COUNT STUDENT YEARS)

> Its counted as half for the stay of students in Belgium whatever they are EU or non-EU.

> The author has 2 years of student so its counted as 1. The search year I don’t think its counted or if its counted then 0.5 is max because you have not paid any tax so its impossible to count in full. Then go ahead and plus the full year of work that you are paid tax. If it reaches 5 -> submit the application.

@TheKing I think you messed up the count of student year in full (nationality) and half (permanent resident D/L). It causes a lot of confusion for thoes kinds of statements!
