I have a several questions related to residency and Healthcare...

1)Once I have a resident visa and a successful SEF appointment, do I immediately walk out with a two year residency permit card?

2)Do I wait for mail to arrive?

3)Once I have the card, do I qualify for Public Healthcare services?

4) What else must I do, if anything?

Moving forward to my future in Portugal,

I understand using both public healthcare and private Healthcare insurance may be my best option.

Hi,

1) No. The resident card will be sent to your address.

2) Yes.

3) You can register at SNS (Public Health system) as long as you have your SEF appointment booked and your NIF.

You will need a private heath insurance regardless of your registration at SNS.

This is not right. This depends upon age and whether you have the funds to buy health services at the full price, or not. I know a number of people that "self insure" simply paying what needs to be paid and using the National Health Service only for A&E.
