Philippines passport expires in March 2024 - funeral

my son's passport expires in March 2024, he has a BRP which expires in December 2024. His grandmother has just died and the funeral is next week. I understand he can still go to the Philippines with three months left on his passport, but getting back into the UK requires six months validity. What can he do to go home and come back without any issues?

Thanks

Apply for a new passport now and then have it sent to the Philippines. He can go to the bureau of immigration to get the stamp renewed in the new one

@Robinson211 hi, thanks for the reply. It's Christmas period , and he'll need to come back to the UK by the 15th Jan, so I'm concerned he wont get the passport in time as everything will be shut down over Christmas.

Are you absolutely sure he can enter the Philippines with a passport valid for less than 6 months and does he hold a Philippine passport? If the answer to both is yes then I guess he will need to renew his passport in the Philippines before coming back. He can renew in the UK but I think that would require a trip and short notice appointment at the Philippines Embassy in London and he would get an appointment in time especially since we are approaching the Christmas & New Year holidays. If you emailed it would be a miracle to get a reply also at this time of year.

Your son will need to show his passport before leaving the UK and may be asked to produce his BRP also. The BRP is evidence of immigration status and not a travel document. The good news (I believe) is that the BRP would still be valid if the passport expired and a new one obtained. Just travel with both the new and expired passports to return.

@Cherryann01 he's on a Philippines passport so no issues getting into the Philippines with less than 6 months. It was the return I was concerned about, but assuming as he has a BRP and they'll be a exit stamp in his passport then I don't think they'll be any issues getting back in. But can't find anything definitive.

My mistake - obvious he is on a Philippine passport since it is about to expire. I think the best line of enquiry would be to see if he can get his passport renewed while in the Philippines and just travel back to the UK with both new and expired passports. Like I said even if you found an email address or phone number where you could check in the UK before departure, nobody will be in the office now until at least next Wednesday and some places may shut all together until after New Year. Not sure what the office hours will be in the relevant departments in the Philippines. I think that if he could get an emergency appointment over there to renew at short notice things might work out.

I do wish you and your son luck though trying to sort this out.
