Hi all,

I'm hoping to get some guidance on a situation I'm facing. My partner is PR and I as a foreigner (living outside of SG) are planning to get married this year. However, I have an ongoing police investigation related to a bank account scam that occurred before I left Singapore in 2022, which apparently stopped me from getting any passes in SG

I've tried applying for a Student pass but was rejected, likely due to the investigation. I'm concerned about how this might impact our marriage plans.

Has anyone faced a similar situation? I have two main questions:

Will the ongoing investigation affect my ability to get married in Singapore?

If I wait until the investigation is complete and then apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) without applying for a Pre-Marriage Long-Term Assessment (PMLA), will this impact my chances of getting an LTVP?

Following our marriage, can my Short-Term Visit Pass (SVP) be extended for up to 90 days?

If anyone has any advice or will be able to help, thank you so much!

If you cannot enter Singapore, you cannot marry here.

A PMLA is not a visa in its own right, only an assessment of your chances to get an LTVP after marrying. So it is no help here. I am not sure if police records are consuled for this assessment, or only during the actual LTVP processing.

Even if you manage to get an SVP (tourist visa) and marry here, there is no guarantee to get an LTVP afterwards (even with PMLA).

Maybe you can marry and settle elsewhere instead?

@beppi i still come to Singapore every 2-3 months no problem. I just cant apply for any pass at the moment as the IO (investigation officer) told me.

If you can enter Singapore, you can probably marry here (but please check this with ROM).

If the officer told you that you cannot get any longer-term pass, you already have the answer!
