Hi Everyone,

Last week, I came across a TikTok video based on a news report claiming that citizenship applications are now being processed within one year, compared to the previous timeline of over five years. Here's the TikTok link (apologies, it's only in Malay): ***

Curious about this, I visited the JPN (National Registration Department) website: https://www.jpn.gov.my/en/core-business … lebih-eng. The requirements for naturalization seem straightforward, primarily requiring residency in the federation for the past 10 years. As a holder of an RP-T for the past decade, I thought I might qualify to apply. I reached out via their feedback page, and here is their response (translated from Malay):

"Sir,

With all due respect, I am directed to refer to the above matter.

It is informed that anyone wishing to apply for Malaysian citizenship must meet the eligibility requirements according to the relevant provisions as stipulated in Part III of the Federal Constitution. Among the conditions set for applying for Malaysian citizenship is that the applicant must be a resident with Permanent Resident status as a holder of a Permanent Resident identity card (MyPR). In this regard, you are advised to consult the Immigration Department of Malaysia to obtain guidance regarding the application for an Entry Permit or eligible Pass/Visa."

It appears that the path to citizenship requires first obtaining Permanent Resident status. However, I've heard rumors that RP-T holders are not eligible to apply for PR. If anyone can confirm this, it would be greatly appreciated.
