Hello!

My husband, Tom, and I are interested in assessing if retiring early in Cuenca would work for us.  We are in our 50s and have varied interests - mostly outdoors & active.  Although the arts is a a love of mine, and technology is my husband's passion.

We would like to meet expats in our age range to converse & see what life is like for them in Ecuador.  We arrive on November 22.  The 1st week there we are planning to go to all the usual places - Zoe's, Cafe Eucalyptus, Sukura & Inca Lounge, Kookaburra Cafe.

Might we meet some of you there?

Looking forward to it, Wendy

Wendy,
Are you on Facebook? If you are, there is a group, EcuadorExpats, that discusses all things ecuador. It is a closed group, but I believe you can look it up then ask to be a member.
Look for Gerard Tretton, he is the group moderator.

... I forgot to say: many of ther members live in Cuenca.

WendySueB

Thank you.  No, I still resist Facebook.

Hi There,
My husband and I are going to Cuenca on November 1- we have spent the past month in Salinas. By the time you get there we should be reasonably versed in most things Cuenca-LOL.
Would love to meet you & exchange info.
Send us a note at uwe_petra@msn.com
Thanks,
Petra

Petra,

Sounds like a plan.  We want to go to salinas when we leave Cuenca, so we'll be interested to hear your experience there too.
We are planning to go on Tuesday night - Nov. 22, to Di Bacco for Gringo night.  Perhaps we can meet there.  Please let me know.

Thanks, Wendy

Sounds like a plan. I'm blonde ( gray?) about 5'3" and my husband is approximately 6' with gray hair as well.
See you then & have a good flight.

Petra,
I am happy with the beach alone. I am a beach lover, and that's what I want and my husband too.
I will certainly read your blog!

My, my, you've certainly done your gringo homework!  We'll be happy to try and hook up with you while you're here.  Email me directly at eddsaid@gmail.com when you get settled.

Greetings all -  We just got through taking two trips to Belize and deciding that, while so beautiful, it's not the place for us to retire.  Next on our list is Ecuador and we're very excited about Cuenca.  I've already really learned a lot about Belize from this site and hope to do the same about Ecuador.  If all goes well, we'd visit once early next year and hopefully rent a house as we have a dog and a cat and want a yard.  Not much more to report.  If anybody has any helpful hints, bring 'em on.  In any case, I'll have great fun browsing through the Ecuadoire blogs.
Good luck to us all!!

Hello Pica,

An advice about finding a house to rent, try to look for it few weeks before you come to visit.
It's not easy to find a pets friendly house, even more is the house is furnished.

Hope we can meet once you're in Cuenca.

Hello All
I am wondering since I have been reading most messages if not all are from couples
How difficult or awkward is that going to be? Have there been any other singles over the recent months or year or so?
Judith

Hi Judith! Have wondered the same thing, so pleased to see your post. I'm travelling to Ecuador Jan 9th and will be based in Cuenca for eight weeks, to research a permanent retirement move. I'm happy to connect with couples, and would be tickled pink to connect with singles as well!  Warm regards, Deborah (currently living in Nova Scotia)

My husband and I moved here in November. We have been pleasantly surprised at the number of Expat women living here on their own.
Some have already established homes here and many were investigating. I'm sure you will find many friends here- try attending any of the dinners/lunches at Secret Garden restaurant.

DeborahM

Thanks so much! I'll definitely research the Secret Garden.

A slight complaint to all.  I'm noticing that it's becoming hard to follow all of the enthusiastic comments, because they're not always attached to the correct subject.  It's like those mile long email strings that all have the same subject line, but are about increasingly different things.  Is it possible that if you have a different subject or question that you start a new topic?  If it's a message addressed only to the person your replying to, you can arrange meetings, etc. by writing a private message.  I have three of these private strings going so they don't clog up the "blogosphere."  You can send a private message by clicking on the name of the sender and then clicking "send a message."  Sorry to be a "techno drip," because I love this site and it loses usefulness when you're just reading comment after comment that don't apply to you.

Thanks much,
Toni
